BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Lady Tiger bowling came from behind to upset top-seeded University of Pikeville and then swept two-seed Lindenwood University-Belleville to win their first Mid-South Conference tournament championship in program history on Sunday afternoon.
In the tournament bracket, Campbellsville defeated No. 6-seed Bethel University and then No. 7-seed Union College on Saturday to set up a meeting with Pikeville on Sunday at the Southern Lanes.
The winner of the semifinal match would be sitting pretty, as whoever came out of the consolation bracket had to win twice to claim the MSC crown.
It didn't look great for CU early on, as the Bears won the first two games 170-149 and 177-163. Campbellsville rallied with its highest score of 223 pins to steal the third. The Bears had one final push to go up 3-1 with a 165-156 win in the fourth. But then it was all Campbellsville.
The Lady Tigers rallied once more to win the best of seven match by putting together three consecutive 200-pin games and UPIKE lost all of its momentum. The Bears finished the final three games with scores of 179, 153 and 155.
Pikeville and two-seed Lindenwood-Belleville faced off in the consolation bracket finals directly after CU upset the Bears and the Lynx pulled out the seven-game victory. With the Lady Tigers well rested, Campbellsville dominated the match by knocking down 786 pins compared to 655 for LUB for the sweep.
