DUBUGUE, Iowa — Playing in the Clarke College Invitational this weekend, Campbellsville men's volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday with Lindenwood-Belleville and the host Clarke College.
The Tigers won in five sets over Lindenwood-Belleville (32-30, 15-25, 24-26, 25-19 and 15-13) but lost in four sets to the host Crusaders (9-25, 18-25, 25-23, 13-25).
The Tigers are now 3-7 overall and 2-1 inside conference play. CU is scheduled to travel to Bryan College on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. ET.
Campbellsville 3, Lindenwood-Belleville 2
Bryce Johnson and
Adam Conklin led the Tigers with 16 and 15 kills, respectively, while
Keaton Marshall dished out a career-high 44 assists. Conklin also led CU with six blocks, while the Tigers had 12 as a team.
Campbellsville got down 2-1 but rallied in the last two sets to pull out the victory. The Lynx took an 18-14 lead but the Tigers knotted the score at 20-all thanks to a trio of attacking errors and a Lynx service error. After trading points back and fourth until the score was 30-30, Conklin and Johnson delivered a pair of kills to seal the win.
The Tigers hit .375 in the first set but delivered a match-low .133 in set two, as Lindenwood-Belleville took command early and didn't let up until, 25-15.
In the third set, it was the Lynx that had to rally late. Campbellsville led 18-17 but rallied off three-straight points to take a 21-17 advantage. Then Lindenwood-Belleville scored six-straight points to lead 23-21. Trailing 24-22, CU had one final push before the Lynx won 26-24.
Now down two sets to one, CU ended the fourth set on a 7-2 run to win 25-19. The Tigers hit a match-high .476 with 11 kills on 21 attacks.
In the fifth, both teams struggled overall but the Tigers scored seven of the final 10 points to win 15-13. The Lynx hit .150 in the final set but Campbellsville was cold as well hitting .059.
Clarke 3, Campbellsville 1
The Tigers hit a season-low -.217 in the first set, finished with only four kills and were unable to recover.
Adam Conklin led CU with 11 kills, while
Rafael Cruz finished with nine and
Bryce Johnson had eight.
The Crusaders finished hitting above .300 in three of the four sets, while Isaiah Acafalle led the way with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .455.
After a dominating 25-9 loss, CU regrouped but fell short in the second set, 25-18. The Tigers were able to steal a set, 25-23, In the third but Clarke pulled away late with a 25-13 win in set four.
In the third set, CU led 13-10 and ended up extending its lead to 21-15. Clarke tied it at 22-all but CU won three of the next four to steal a set.
In the fourth, CU finished with just three kills, compared to 15 for Clarke.Acfalle finished with seven of hits 18 kills in the final set, while Conklin had all three for the Tigers.
