Davenport holds on in seventh for 4-3 win, but Lady Tigers down Kentucky Christian, 11-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — A last-inning rally fell a run short against No. 15 Davenport today in the Campbellsville/Lindsey Wilson Crossover at Veterans Memorial Park, but CU righted its ship and took down Kentucky Christian in the second game.

Dating back to Opening Weekend in the in Pulaskia, Tenn., Campbellsville (11-7) had not scored a run against Emily Maves in 13 innings, but had the tying run on base and the winning run at the plate before dropping a 4-3 decision to Panthers.

In a four-inning game, CU banged out 11 hits, two of them solo home runs, to down KCU, 11-0.

GAME 1 – Davenport 4, Campbellsville 3

Campbvellsville only had three hits against Maves (8-0), but left 10 runners on base in what proved to be a thriller.

Davenport (18-1), and having its best start in program history, scored three runs in the pivotal third inning and CU's late recovery came up short.

Maves had allowed only two hits going into the seventh, but walked Jacqueline Roof and hit Madison Mudd with a pitch to put two on with no outs. Alexis Smith loaded the bases with a two-out walk and Hailey Szpila's double knocked in three runs.

But Maves caught Tori Humphrey off balance for her 11th strikeout of the game.

Morgan Gailor (5-3) absorbed the loss on an eight hitter.

Alexis Smith had two singles, the only other hits for the Lady Tigers.

GAME 2 – Campbellsville 11, Kentucky Christian 0

An eight-run first inning when CU sent 13 batters to the plate put Kentucky Christian (0-7) in too deep a hole to recover.

Neely Quint (6-4) did not allow a hit in three innings of work. Rachel Denkins relieved Quint in the fourth and allowed two hits while striking out a like number along the way.

The Lady Tigers used six hits, an error, a walk and a hit batsman to create the eight-run open frame.

Brianna Scott had a three-run double and a home run. Hailey Szpila had an RBI-single and a home run.

The Lady Tigers will host Union College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, March 14 at Veterans Memorial Park.
