EMERSON, Ga. — In a slew of schedule changes this week, Tiger baseball was able to overcome the obstacles and sweep its competition on Tuesday afternoon at the Perfect Game Complex. Campbellsville defeated Indiana Tech, 3-1, and St. Amrbose 1-0 in 10 innings.
In a seven-inning game vs. Indiana Tech, Campbellsville scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and out-hit the Warriors 11-4 to pull out the victory.
Jared Welander (2-1) pitched five strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run in the second inning. He was relieved by
Nick Przybylek, who earned his first-career save in two innings of work.
Campbellsville was led at the plate by four Tigers who finished with two hits a piece.
David Montoya,
Matthew Valdez,
Brett Hamilton and
Riley Joyce all collected two base knocks with Montoya, Joyce and
Diego Reynoso drove in the three CU runs.
In game two, it was a 10
th-inning RBI single by
Matthew Valdez to propel the Tigers over St. Ambrose in a nip-and-tuck battle all game.
The win in extra innings is the first for Campbellsville (13-9) all season.
Malik Evans and Kane Klais were competing in a pitchers dual in game two of the day. Evans went five innings, allowing four hits and struck out one. Klais went six innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three Tigers.
DJ Wilson relieved Evans in the sixth inning and also tossed five innings. He earned the victory by allowing only two hits and striking out four.
Clay Valenzuela-Reece led CU with three hits, while Montoya, Valdez, Hamilton and Reynoso all pitched in one base knock.
With the weather expecting to be chilly this weekend in Pikeville, Ky., Campbellsville and University of Pikeville has changed its schedule once again. The Tiger are Bears will now play a doubleheader on Thursday, March 16 starting at 12 p.m. ET. Game three of the MSC series will be on Friday at Noon ET.
