PORTSMOUTH, Ohio —
Morgan Gailor and
Neely Quint pitched a pair of shutouts this weekend, while
Tori Humphrey collected eight hits in four games, as the Lady Tigers completed the sweep of Shawnee State University on Sunday afternoon.
Gailor pitched a five-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory in game one, while Quint was one out away from a perfect game, winning 10-0 in five innings.
Humphrey collected eight hits on the weekend with three of them coming today (3-for-6). In addition,
Jacqueline Roof had a pair of hits in game one, while
Alexis Smith picked up the slack in game two with two RBI doubles.
Campbellsville's sweep in its first MSC series of the year moves the Lady Tigers record to 16-7 overall and 4-0 inside conference play. CU is tied with Lindsey Wilson College atop the standings to start the season after the Blue Raiders swept University of Pikeville this weekend.
Game one: Campbellsville 4, Shawnee State 0
The Lady Tigers scattered six hits and plated single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to outlast the Bears in game one of the day – game three of the series. Out of the six Lady Tiger hits – half of them were doubles by Humphrey, Roof and
Markie Smith.
In the second inning,
Brianna Scott reached on a dropped fly ball by Victoria Bevington and then came all the way around to score on Bevington's errant throw.
In the third,
Brittany Rippy walked and stole second base to set up the first RBI double by Roof.
CU extended its lead in the fourth after Humphrey earned a one-out single and scored on
Markie Smith's RBI double. In the fifth, the Lady Tigers took advantage of a two-out walk to
Hailey Szpila. She stole second base and scored on an RBI double by Humphrey.
Gailor (7-3) went the distance with seven inning pitched, allowing five hits and striking out four.
Game two: Campbellsville 10, Shawnee State 0
The Lady Tigers shutout Shawnee State for the third straight game behind
Neely Quint's near perfect game in five innings. With one out to go, Mackenzie Riley ruined the perfect game with a single to right-center field off a hanging change up.
Quint (9-4) finished the day with her fifth complete game of the year, tossing five innings and striking out two.
CU led 3-0 after three innings but put the proverbial dagger in Shawnee State by scoring seven one-out runs in the fourth inning. CU compiled five hits, three walks and capitalized on a Bears' error for the seven runs.
In game two, Smith drove in two runs, while Scott went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
The Lady Tigers will remain in MSC play this week with Cumberland University (11-11, 1-3 MSC) coming into Tiger Town for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 21. Live video and stats will be available on
