LONDON, Ky. —
Justin Riffle rolled in three birdies and finished three-over par in the final round to lead Campbellsville at the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament. The Tigers finished tied for fifth with University of the Cumberlands.
Campbellsville fired two shots worse, 315-317, to finish the tournament at 28-over par. Lindsey Wilson College won the spring championship by a land slide and were MSC Regular Season Champions.
Riffle struggle in the opening round but came back today to improve by four strokes and finish tied for 10
th. With a shotgun start and beginning his round on the fifth hole, Riffle carded a pair of birdies in his first seven holes before finishing with one birdie and four bogeys in the final nine.
Justin Warman shot one stroke behind his first round 77 and finished tied for 12
th after a second round five-over 78.
James Higgins, who was tied for sixth after the opening round, dropped to tied for 16
th shooting 74-82.
Halen Stamper went 85-82 and
Nathan Lee also improved from his first round firing 86-83.
Rasmus Lind from Lindsey Wilson would earn the medalist honors after a three-hole playoff with Union College's Erik Hermanson. After both tied Nos. 10 and 11, Lind would par on the 17th hole to claim the playoff. He fired 72-75 (147), while Hermanson went 73-74 (147).
Behind Lindsey Wilson, University of Pikeville claimed second in the team standings by improving 13 strokes as a team. The Bears shot 318-305 (623) to finish runner-up and outlast Cumberland University and Asbury University. The Phoenix dropped nine shots on Day 2 and placed third (309-318, 627), while Asbury dropped 11 strokes (309-320, 629) to place fourth.
University of the Cumberlands (309-323) tied Campbellsville (315-317) for fifth place with team scorers of 632. Georgetown College finished seventh (320-315, 635), Union College was eighth (323-313, 636) and Shawnee State was ninth (323-318, 641).
The Blue Raiders finished second at the fall conference tournament, followed by a victory in the spring event.
Lindsey Wilson recorded an even par 568 at the fall tournament in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, which was one shot behind Cumberlands (Ky.) for first place. At the tournament the Blue Raiders recorded the lowest round of the conference season with an 8-under par 276.
At the spring tournament in London, Ky., Lindsey Wilson won the event after notching a two day total of 22-over par 598. After the Patriots finished tied for fifth in the tournament, the
Blue Raiders captured the regular season title outright.
This is Lindsey Wilson's second regular season championship in three seasons.
The 2017 Mid-South Conference Men's Golf Championship is slated for April 23-26 in Bowling Green, Ky., at the Bowling Green Country Club.
The Tigers will now play in the Lindsey Wilson Spring Classic on on Monday-Tuesday, March 27-28 at The Pines in Columbia.
