LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tiger track and field opened its outdoor season with a second-place finish at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Transylvania University on Saturday.
The Tigers collected 133 points, falling to Marian University, which claimed 179 points.
Adam Sandidge and
Brayden Russell led the way for the Tigers with first-place finishes in their respective events. Sandidge finished the 5,000-meter run in 15:51.13 and Russell leaped 13.12 meters in the triple jump, each earning 10 points for Campbellsville. Russell also punched his ticket to the NCCAA Championships, surpassing the 12.50-meter standard.
A team of
Paxton Wiley,
Jaron Jackson,
Jordan Thomas and
Edwin Ford grabbed 10 more points in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing first with a time of 42.74 seconds.
On Friday afternoon, freshman
Edwin Ford started the meet on a good note, qualifying for the NCCAA Championships in the javelin. He threw 47.03 meters for second place and eight points. Nick McGaughey also threw, earning eighth place with 40.67 meters.
Freshman
Jiovanni Rivera and Junior
Ross Allen completed the 10,000-meter run on Friday in second and third-place, respectively for 14 total points. Rivera finished the event in 37:56.05 and Allen in 39:18.62
Rounding out the sprints for the Tigers, Jalen Coates finished the 100-meter sprint in fifth with a time of 11.49;
Jordan Thomas finished the 200-meter in fourth with a time of 22.76 seconds and the 400-meter run in fourth with a time of 50.01 seconds, qualifying for NCCAA in both;
Jaron Jackson finished the 400-meter run in eighth in 52.31 seconds; and Kelvin Fields,
Nick Mabe,
Bradford Evans, and
Keyshon Truitt finished the 4x100-meter relay in fourth with a time of 44.55 seconds.
Wiley led the hurdle events with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.54 seconds for an NCCAA ticket. Lewis also qualified for the NCCAA with a time of 15.96 seconds.
Johannesburg Boulware competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:00.24 for seventh place.
In the mid-distance events,
Bret Crawford finished both the 800 and 1500-meter run in third place. He ran the 800 in 2:00.59 and the 1500 in 4:13.36.
Camryn Snapp ran the 800-meter run in 2:05.10 for seventh-place and the 1500-meter run in 4:17.89 for fifth.
Corbin Harris rounded out the scoring on the track with a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:00.76.
In the field,
Clayton Embry grabbed a second-place finish in the hammer throw. He threw 45.80-meters for second place and eight points. Russell and Mabe finished the high jump in third and fifth, respectively. Russell leaped 1.93 meters and Mabe in 1.88 meters. All three Tigers earned their spot in the NCCAA Championships.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, April 1 at the Centre College Invitational in Danville, Ky.
