CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Tiger baseball fell victim to five errors on the defensive side and Culver Stockton swept the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 and 5-1 victory.
Nick Przybylek (2-2) pitched brilliantly for Campbellsville but the Wildcats scored four runs in the seventh inning for the victory.
In game two, the Wildcats scratched a run in the first and three in the second before adding an insurance run in the fifth. The Tigers were held to only four hits in game two and mustered one run in the sixth.
Game one: Culver Stockton 4, Campbellsville 1
Game one flew by, playing in one hour and 40 minutes with a pitchers duel on the mound. Przybylek tossed a complete game and allowed four runs – three earned – and struck out four. But Miguel Vasquez (2-0) one-upped him by allowing six hits and one run.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the sixth after
Romello Carbuccia singled with one out. He stole second base and came around to score on a fielders choice by
Brett Hamilton.
In the seventh, the Wildcats scored four runs and it all started on a drop third-strike allowing Alex Satunas to reach. Kevin Cali followed with a single and Matt Kuhl reached on a drag bunt to load the bases.
Clay Valenzuela-Reece gunned down pinch-runner Tanner Evans at home plate for the second out but Robin Felix delivered an RBI single and the Wildcats scored another two runs off an error and squeeze bunt.
The Tigers brought the tying run to the plate by loading the bases but
Matthew Valdez flew out to left field and
Marlor Villafana grounded out to third.
Game two: Culver Stockton 5, Campbellsville 1
Daniel Smith (3-1) tossed another complete game for the Wildcats, allowing only five hits and one run.
Malik Evans was roughed up through 4.2 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs – three earned.
The Wildcats scored all they needed in the first two innings after plating a run after a one-out error in the first and another three runs on an error in the second.
The Tigers fell victim to five errors in the doubleheader combined.
CU was able to scratch a run in the bottom of the sixth, as
Jose Castro singled in Valenzuela-Reece.
Jared Welander and
Nick Johnston both pitched in the final two innings and shut the Wildcats down with only one hit.
