GULF SHORES, Ala. —
Neely Quint picked up two wins in the circle today as Campbellsville stayed a perfect 4-0 after two days of the Gulf Shores Invitational.
The Lady Tigers (9-5) used a 12-hit attack to run rule Concordia and then broke open a 6-6 tie with George Gwinnett with three runs in their final two at-bats.
Quint went three innings against Concordia and then relieved
Morgan Gailor with two outs gone in the fifth against the Grizzlies.
GAME 1 – Campbellsville 10, Concordia 2
The Lady Tigers jumped on Concordia's starter Becky Sarver for five runs in a six-run first inning, highlighted by
Brianna Scott's two-run double.
A
Jacqueline Roof single and
Madison Mudd walk set the table for
Mia Aldridge's sacrifice. After Scott doubled, a pitch hit
Tori Humphrey,
Markie Smith drew a one-out walk and
Brittany Rippy singled home a run. The sixth run came on Roof's sacrifice to center.
CU was back at it again in the top of the second when back-to-back doubles by Scott and Humphrey gave CU a 7-0 lead.
Campbellsville made in 9-0 in the third when Aldridge singled home Rippy and Roof, both of whom hit safely as well.
The Lady Tigers tacked on a run in the fifth when they sent four pinch hitters to the plate.
Dana Adkins got her first career hit and scored on a single by
Katelyn Merritt.
Sarver worked only one-third of an inning before seeing relief help from Jessica England.
Neely Quint (4-3) and
Rachel Denkins combined for a four hitter. Quint pitched three innings of one-hit ball as both Cardinal runs were credited to Denkins.
Four CU players had multiple hits in the Lady Tigers' 12-hit attack. Roof had three hits and Scott, Humphrey and Rippy had two hits apiece.
GAME 2 – Campbellsville 9, Georgia Gwinnett 6
The No. 13 Grizzlies (15-5) got on the board first when Gailor gave up a leadoff bunt single to Niki Cook, and she scored on RaeQuinn Rossetti's triple. Gailor forced to ground outs and picked up a strikeout to leave Rossetti stranded.
CU took the lead in the bottom of the second, using a couple of no-out walks to
Brianna Scott and
Hailey Szpila just prior to a
Tori Humphrey single. Then
Markie Smith laid down a squeeze but and Szpila came home.
Campbellsville erupted for four runs in a fourth inning three-hit attack.
Alexis Smith, pinch-hitting for
Madison Mudd, singled home two runs and
Rebecca Miller did the same with her second hit of the game.
Markie Smith had a double in the frame.
Things unraveled for the Lady Tigers in the top of the fifth. Gailor gave up four hits and was charged with five runs in the inning before being relieved by
Neely Quint. Sydney Wilhite singled back to the pitcher for the tying run and Campbellsville went into its half if the inning tied, 6-6.
Campbellsville went up 7-6 in the fifth when Rippy's sacrifice bunt scored Szpila. And then two big insurance runs were picked up in the sixth when
Mia Aldridge homered with
Madison Mudd aboard to give CU the final margin of 9-6.
Gailor (4-2) gave up only three hits through her first four innings, but got in trouble when she allowed three hits, a walk and her defense committed two errors.
Quint (5-3) gave up a hit to the first batter she faced, but then set Gwinnett on six straight outs.
The Lady Tigers will enter Day 3 of the now-double elimination Gulf Shores (Ala.) Invitational at 4-0. They will play Sunday, March 5 at an unknown time and against an unknown opponent.
