LEBANON, Ky. — The scores were haunted by high winds all day but it was CU's
Justin Warman overcoming the odds and is on top after the first round of the Campbellsville Invitational at Rosewood Golf Club.
Warman, a freshman from Georgetown, Ky., is coming off a Top 5 finish at the Lindsey Wilson Classic last week and is in the driver's seat once again after today's opening round 73.
Warman leads the duo of Chance England from Brescia University and A.J. Hamilton from Shawnee State by one-stroke (74).
Warman fired out six birdies in the first round – five of those came on his second nine – but could not overcome a triple-bogey at the par-three 14
th and a bogey at the par-four 16
th.
Campbellsville as a team sits in second place but not by much. The Tigers (311) are one stroke behind Brescia University (312) and are two strokes better than Mid-South Conference foe Shawnee State (314). West Virginia Tech is also still in contention after finishing fourth on Day 1 (318).
Justin Riffle was also a bright spot for CU, firing a three-over 75 in his first round to sit in a tie for fourth place. Individual
Andrew Scalos was right behind Riffle with a six-over 78 and is tied for eighth, rounding out the Tigers' scores in the 70s.
James Higgins,
Robbie Johnson and
Justin Hazel all shot 82 to complete CU's Top 5.
The Tigers also had a second team in the tournament and were led by
Nathan Lee and Taylor Harrod's 83s. Seito Miyaski finished with an 85, while
Pierce Dahl shot 88 and
Halen Stamper finished with an 89.
Round two of the Campbellsville Invitational is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. ET at Rosewood Golf Club.
