Lady Tigers unable to slow down the Blue Raiders, dropping their first Mid-South Conference series

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — It just wasn't meant to be for Lady Tiger softball this weekend, as Lindsey Wilson pulled out two late-inning rallies and won the series finale to claim the Mid-South Conference regular season championship.

Today it was an extra-inning 4-3 win in game three of the series and the Blue Raiders ran away with game four, 7-3.

Win the series win over Campbellsville (31-11, 18-4 MSC), Lindsey Wilson (35-8, 21-1 MSC) claims the Mid-South Conference regular season – its sixth in program history and sixth in the last eight years.

Campbellsville, which has sealed the two-seed in the upcoming MSC Tournament, has one conference series left, a makeup series at the University of the Cumberlands on Friday, April 21 at 4 p.m. ET. Lindsey Wilson travels to Georgetown for a MSC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 18 and will be the one-seed in the MSC Tournament.

Today it was an extra-inning single by Megan Terrell uncorking a 3-3 tie in the eighth and in game two, the Blue Raiders went to their workhorse, Casey Bryan, for the series-clinching win.

Bryan tossed 16 2/3 innings on the week, earning a pair of wins, a loss, and a save. She ended the four-game series with 269 pitches thrown.

Game one: Lindsey Wilson 4, Campbellsville 3 (8 innings)

The Lady Tigers scratched a run in the third inning, as Brianna Scott delivered an RBI double scoring Brittany Rippy. Rippy finished the opening game today 4-for-4 but like the entire weekend, every inning CU scored the Blue Raiders answered. LWC plated two runs in the fourth – an RBI single by Samantha Luckett and sac fly by Amy Rodgers.

In the fifth, it was the long-ball that propelled the Lady Tigers back in front. Rippy singled to lead off the frame and Tori Humphrey delivered her sixth home run of the season to put CU ahead, 3-2.

But once again, the Blue Raiders answered in the next frame. A leadoff double by Luckett chased starter Neely Quint out of the game but it wouldn't be the last time we saw her. Rachel Denkins replaced Quint in the circle and allowed a pair of one-out singles before Lauren Lett tied the game with an infield single. Denkins was able to get the Lady Tigers out of the inning, stranding the bases loaded for LWC.

In the seventh, Denkins worked around a leadoff hit by pitch to give the Lady Tigers a chance to win it in the bottom half. Mia Aldridge delivered a two-out single but CU was unable to scratch the game-winning run.

Bailey Mize doubled off Denkins in the eighth and was followed with the go-ahead RBI single by Terrell to put LWC ahead, 4-3. After another single by Cassie Kooker and walk to load the bases, Quint reentered to get Fourman to pop up and Amber Foukes to ground out, ending the Lindsey Wilson threat.

In the bottom half, Markie Smith started the rally with a single off started Taylor Slade but Casey Bryan relieved her, striking out Madison Mudd and getting Jacqueline Roof to pop up. Rippy singled with two outs, putting the go-ahead run on base but Tori Humphrey grounded out to end the game.

Slade (9-2) earned the victory, while Denkins (3-1) lost her first game of the year.

Game two: Lindsey Wilson 7, Campbellsville 3

For the second straight day, Morgan Gailor was unable to work a quality start, as the Blue Raiders chased her out of the game in the second inning. Lindsey Wilson put up a run in the first after a leadoff walk to Cassie Kooker scored on a sac fly by Amber Foukes.

In the second, Gailor allowed the first four batters to reach. Another leadoff walk, a sac bunt and a couple singles later, Lindsey Wilson pushed its lead to 2-0 and Rachel Denkins replaced Gailor in the circle for the second straight day.

The Blue Raiders didn't let up, though. Kooker singled to score two more runs and Pilgrim delivered an RBI single to put LWC ahead, 5-0.

CU got a run back in the third, a leadoff home run by Jacqueline Roof – her team-leading eighth of the year. But the Blue Raiders answered in the next inning again. Mia Aldridge replaced Denkins in the circle for just her second appearance all year and allowed a leadoff walk to score. Aldridge got into a jam by allowing a walk, hit by pitch and a few singles but worked out of it by just allowing the one run.

In the next three innings, both teams traded runs. Humphrey delivered another RBI with a single in the fifth, but Lindsey Wilson's Amy Rodgers scored Foukes with an infield single in the sixth.

In the seventh, Rippy reached with a two-out walk and scored off the bat of Humphrey once more but it was too little too late for Campbellsville.
