Denkins twirls one-hitter and Lady Tigers claw by Cumberland University in game one of MSC Tourney

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In a good old fashioned pitcher's duel, it was Campbellsville's Rachel Denkins prevailing over Cumberland University's Alexa Snyder. Denkins finished by tossing a one-hitter and the Lady Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning to win 5-2.

Ninth-ranked Campbellsville (36-11) will now play the winner of University of the Cumberlands and Georgetown College at 6 p.m. ET tonight, Friday, April 28 at Michael O. Buchanon Park. At post-time, Georgetown and Cumberlands were tied at four in the 10th inning.

With the extra inning game, game time could change but fans can follow the tournament on social media - @CvilleTigers and @MidSouthSports. CU's next game will also be streamed on the CU Sports Network at the link above.

In game one, it was Denkins (6-1) tossing six-plus inning and allowed a leadoff single in the seventh inning to Jocelyn Hernandez. She finished by throwing only 66 pitches in the six innings of work.

Snyder also shined in the circle for Cumberland but it was a leadoff infield single by Madison Mudd in the sixth inning getting the Lady Tigers on the bases and starting a five-run rally. Brittany Rippy and Tori Humphrey both followed with singles and Brianna Scott delivered a bases clearing two-run double to put CU ahead, 3-0.

CU kept the pedal to the floor with two outs. After a hit-by-pitch to Mia Aldridge, Rebecca Miller cleared the bases with another two-run double to left-center field to put CU ahead, 5-0.

In the seventh, The Phoenix picked up two runs but the Lady Tigers gave them both. After the single by Hernandez, Neely Quint relieved Denkins in the circle and a pair of errors allowed the Bears to cut the lead to three. But Quint picked up a ground out to Humphrey to earn her first save of the year.
