Softball splits with Georgetown on a low-scoring day, 20-game win streak snapped

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville beat Georgetown three out of four this weekend, but saw its 20-game win streak broken when the Lady Tigers were held to one run in today's second game.

It was the lowest run production since an early March loss to Columbia, Mo. by the same score, 2-1. The Lady Tigers are 30-8, 17-1 MSC and drop out of a tie for the conference lead with undefeated Lindsey Wilson. Georgetown avoids a sweep and is 27-11, 10-6 MSC).

GAME 1 – Campbellsville 3, Georgetown 2

Hailey Szpila and Jacqueline Roof went yard and Tori Humphrey's run-scoring single in the first inning gave CU its winning margin.

But it didn't come without a fight.

After leading 3-0 going into the top of the sixth, Georgetown used a home run by Corrin Robinson to close the gap to 3-1. An infield single in the seventh by Kara Howard drew Georgetown to within one.

But Neely Quint (15-4) struck out Robinson with two in scoring position to secure the win.

Quint pitched an eight hitter, walking one and striking out four. The junior pitcher stranded nine Tigers, none any bigger than the two inning-ending Ks in the sixth and seventh innings when Georgetown had two runners in scoring position.

Audrey Dodd was the tough-luck loser, pitching a seven hitter.

Roof also had a double to go with her home run and Humphrey had two singles. Brianna Scott and Mia Aldridge collected CU's other two hits.

GAME 2 –Georgetown 2, Campbellsville 1

Georgetown danced around five errors, as Hannah Morton's six-hitter kept the Lady Tigers at bay. CU stranded nine runners.

Campbellsville had the leadoff runner on base in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not plate a run.

The Lady Tigers got their only run in the third when Brittany Rippy scored on a wild pitch with Tori Humphrey at the plate.

Georgetown scored twice in the second inning, and as it turns out that was all it would need.

Morgan Gailor (12-4) pitched good enough to win a lot of games, but gave up consecutive no-out singles to Allison Watson and Abigail James in the second and they scored when Rippy lost a fly ball in the sun that would have been the third out.

Rippy had a great day at the plate, picking up three hits that included a leadoff double and a single in the fifth and seventh.

Gailor ended up allowing seven hits and striking out a like number. But she did walk six.

Jacqueline Roof, Hailey Szpila and Alexia Smith had the other three hits for the Lady Tigers.

Campbellsville will travel to Grayson County on Tuesday, April 11 for a doubleheader with Kentucky Christian University. First pitch will be at 2 p.m.
