Oklahoma City flexes its muscle and sends Tigers to the elimination bracket of NAIA Opening Round

OKLAHOMA, City — Oklahoma City put up a 10-run fourth inning and sent Campbellsville into the elimination bracket today in the NAIA Opening Round, 19-5.

The Stars (47-8) proved their No. 1 ranking, banging out 16 hits with three of them round-trippers that produced eight of their runs.

But Campbellsville (34-20) didn't do itself any favors by issuing nine free passes, two hit batters and two errors.

The errors were big because that's what got Oklahoma going in the fourth when the Tigers used three pitching changes in an effort to slow OCU's momentum.

Trailing 14-0, CU showed some life in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings when the Tigers collected six of their eight hits and stranded five runners.

Campbellsville scored four in the fifth and its final run in the eighth.

In the fifth, Romello Carbuccia singled and eventually scored on a safety by Marlor Villafana. Diego Reynoso picked up a single and then Riley Joyce's doubled scored a run. Another double by Clay Valenzuela-Reece knocking in the final two runs of the frame.

In the eighth, Carbuccia picked up a one-out single and was plated by Jose Castro's double.

OCU's Mark Simon went seven innings for the win, allowing six hits and striking out 11.

The Tigers will play tomorrow at noon ET against the winner of the College of Idaho and Friends University game that is in progress.
