Christensen's moon shoot sparks three-run ninth, advancing Tigers to #NCCAABaseball World Series

MASON, Ohio — Hunter Christensen hit a massive two-run home run in the top of the ninth and Clay Valenzuela-Reece drove in the game-winning run as the Tigers completed a come-from-behind victory over Southwestern Christian, 5-4.

Campbellsville will now play for the NCCAA Baseball World Series Championship for the first time in program history at 5 p.m. ET vs. top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist. The Tigers enter the game ranked No. 2 in the NCCAA rankings, and the Bison are the top-ranked team in the last rankings.

Fans can tune into the CU Sports Network at 4:50 p.m. ET with pregame coverage with Jordan Alves.

The semifinal contest was a pitcher's duel that turned into a slugfest the final couple innings. David Montoya's solo shot in the second inning was the lone run in the first five and a half innings.

The Eagles got to CU starter Indalecio Romo in the sixth, scoring three runs – two earned – by only recording two hits. A costly error also came around to score for the Eagles.

CU scratched back with a lone run in the eighth. Riley Joyce, who is one of two Tiger position players returning from last year's NCCAA team, doubled off the left-center wall to start the rally. His courtesy runner, Jose Castro, cut the Southwestern deficit to one with a Valenzuela-Reece RBI single to centerfield.

Kirby Broadbent, who relieved Romo on the hill in the seventh inning, allowed a leadoff home run to Drew Umbro – just his second of the season – to put the Eagles back ahead by two, 4-2.

But the Tigers rallied when their backs were against the wall. Carlos Garmendia started the rally in the ninth with a single to left and followed with Christensen's moon shot over the centerfield fence.

After Diego Reynoso flew out to left for the second out, CU put together three straight hits with Joyce starting the rally again with a single. Castro came in to run again and Matt Valdez singled putting runners on first and second with two outs. Valenzuela-Reece singled through the hole on the left side and Castro scored the go-ahead run.

Southwestern Christian made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth, as the tying run was on second and the NCCAA Central Regional Player of the Year, Michael Lowe, at the plate, but Przybylek got him to ground out to end the game and secure CU's championship appearance.

Overall, Przybylek got the win on the hill to improve to 9-4 overall, while SCU's Jason Braziel fell to 8-7. Offensively, Valdez, Valenzuela-Reece and Joyce had two hits a piece for CU.
