DEER PARK, Ill. — Trinity International's Jill Kolster uncorked a scoreless tie in the 71
st minute and Isabelle Danner gave the Trojans breathing room in the 83
rd, as the Trojans held Campbellsville scoreless in the season opener, falling 2-nil.
Trinity International (2-1) held possession for the majority of the match, as Campbellsville (0-1) could not get comfortable with the long natural grass surface and was unable to use its speed on the outside.
In the first half, All-American goalkeeper
Amanda Howard was busy as the Trojans earned a pair of corner kicks that were inches away from finding the back of the net.
In the 7th minute, Danner's first shot found the left post and just a few minutes later, Heather Ortiz's shot dinged off the right post. Those unlucky bounces started to fall for the Trojans late in the second half and CU could not recover.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers finished with just three shots – two on goal. CU had an opportunity late but
Rachel McWilliams' free kick to the back-post was just out of the reach of freshman
Sarah Johnston.
The Lady Tigers had only nine shots - five on goal - and couldn't get its offense going.
The Trojans had three more opportunities in the final five minutes but Howard saves all three. She finished with seven saves on the afternoon – which was the third most she compiled in 2016.
The score for Trinity International's Kolster was the first of the season, as Heather Ortiz delivered her second assist. Koslter earned her second point of the day after picking up an assist on the Danner score.
Campbellsville will now return home to Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field for the home opener vs. University of Rio Grande on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
