CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Rio Grande's Payten Davis our-ran the defense in the 103rd minute and finished back-post to secure the Golden Goal victory for the RedStorm, 2-1.
Davis' goal secured Rio Grande's first win of the year (1-1), while the Lady Tigers fall to 0-2 for the first time since 2007.
Campbellsville started the scoring in the 20
th minute, as freshman
Rachel Blumfeldt netted her first career goal by finishing back post and sneaking a score over the end line.
The lead did not last long for the Lady Tigers, as Chase Davis delivered her first goal of the year off a Jenna Porter pass into the 18-yard box during the 34
td minute.
Both teams were knotted at one for the next 69-plus minutes until the Davis score.
Campbellsville dominated the stat sheet but the Lady Tigers were unable to finish golden opportunities throughout the match.
Freshman
Kiersten Clukey had a chance to uncork the 1-1 tie in the 77
th minute but her shot sailed just over the crossbar. Also, fellow freshmen
Sarah Johnston and Blumfeldt had chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation but were unable to capitalize.
Andrea Vera, Rio Grande's goalkeeper, finished by matching her career-high with 10 saves on Campbellsville's 22 shots. The Lady Tigers did not record a shot in the final overtime period, while Rio Grande capitalized on two of its attempts.
CU's All-American goalkeeper
Amanda Howard finished with eight saves on 16 shots for URG.
A physical match overall that saw two Campbellsville yellow cards on
Jordan Stallings (42

th) and 20 total fouls between the two teams.
