Women’s Volleyball travels to Lindsey Wilson to compete in NAIA Southeastern Challenge

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team travels down Highway 55 to compete at the NAIA Southeastern Challenge hosted by Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky., on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Lady Tigers – who enter the weekend at 2-0 overall – are slated to play four matches during the two-day event. Campbellsville takes on University of Mobile and Martin Methodist College on Friday, and it faces Webber International University and College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday.
 
The NAIA Southeastern Challenge consists of 12 total teams with three teams each from the Mid-South Conference, Appalachian Athletic Conference, Southern States Athletic Conference and The Sun Conference.
 
On the season, Campbellsville is 2-0 and won its first two matches without dropping a set. Annija Abolina has paced the Lady Tiger offense with 23 total kills, while having a team-high attacking percentage of .442. Maria Coelho is second on the team with 15 kills, while Olivia Jarvis has the second-best hitting percentage at .412.
 
Maliyah Tela has captained Campbellsville with 63 assists, while recording 10.5 assists per set. Savannah Moss and Marcella Compeau lead the Lady Tigers with 25 and 20 digs, respectively, while Abolina and Julia Fonseca each have recorded four total blocks this season.
 
Mobile – who is receiving votes in the national poll – has started the season with an 8-0 record. Of its eight victories this season, the Rams have won five contests in three sets. Mirella Gatterdam leads Mobile with 98 kills and she is one of four players for the Rams with at least 50 kills this season.  Alex Karcher has notched a team-high 25 total blocks and Jocelyn Mahayag has paced the back row with 133 digs this season.
 
Martin Methodist enters the weekend with a record of 4-1. The RedHawks went 3-1 to start their season at Life University's Running Eagle Classic and it beat Freed-Hardeman University in five sets earlier in the week. Sabrie Simmons has a team-high 50 kills this season and averages just under three kills per set. Belen Acensio Albertos leads Martin Methodist with a total of 87 digs.
 
Webber International went 3-1 to open its 2017 campaign at the Faulkner University Classic. The Warriors lone loss of the tournament came against Mobile during the first day of the event. Michelle Calderon leads Webber International with 80 digs and her 6.15 digs a set is 10th-best in the NAIA. Virginia Sagapolu leads the team with 41 kills, but she is just hitting .109 on the season. Setter Carlee Baxter has recorded 114 assists to guide the Warrior offense.
 
Coastal Georgia joins Campbellsville and Mobile in receiving votes section of the NAIA preseason poll. The Mariners dropped the first three games of its season at the Bill Marshall Invitational against No. 8 Columbia College, No. 1 Hastings College and Oklahoma City University – who is receiving votes. Coastal Georgia struggled on offense to start the season as it has posted an attacking percentage of -.011. Ehize Omoghibo leads the team with 16 kills and four total blocks.
 
Campbellsville begins the tournament on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET against Mobile, followed by a 7 p.m. ET matchup against against Martin Methodist to finish day one of the event. On Saturday, the Lady Tigers face Webber International at 11 a.m. ET and then Coastal Georgia at 3 p.m. ET.
