Football faces first road test of the season at Point on Saturday afternoon

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –  Fighting Tiger football begins its road schedule for the 2017 season this weekend, as Campbellsville travels to Valley, Alabama to face Point University.

The Tiger Tailgate Show starts at 1 p.m. ET and kickoff follows at 1:30 p.m. from Ram Stadium. Fans can tune into the action on the CU Sports Network, 88.7 The Tiger, as Jim Freeman and Matt Payton call the action.

The Tigers enter the second week of the season with a 1-0 record for the first time since 2011. Last week, Campbellsville took down University of Pikeville at home, 28-14. The Tiger defense shutout the Bears in the first and fourth quarter.

Hunter Brown recorded 383 passing yards and completed 69.8 percent of his passes last week. Chantz Goodman compiled 133 total yards against Pikeville with 71 receiving yards and 62 rushing yards. Zerric Willis led all Campbellsville pass catchers in the game with 86 yards.

On defense, the Tigers did not allow the Bears into the red zone as the closest Pikeville got to the Campbellsville 20-yard line was on its second touchdown of the game when the Bears scored from 24 yards out. Justin Manning and Darius Moore led Campbellsville with 10 tackles a piece. BJ Pelt corralled the lone turnover for the Tigers with an interception in the fourth quarter. Pelt – who was selected as the MSC Bluegrass Division Defender of the Week – also recorded seven total tackles, highlighted by six solo tackles and four pass breakups.

Point picked up a season opening victory on the road after edging out Webber International, 10-7. This is the Skyhawks first season in the Mid-South Conference as part of the Appalachian Division.

During its season opener, Point fell behind early with Webber International scoring a touchdown on its second drive of the game. The Skyhawks looked to cut into its deficit on the ensuing drive, but the Warriors blocked Point's field goal attempt. The Skyhawks were shutout in the first half, but they scored on their first drive of the third quarter to the tie the game. Point then scored to end its first drive in the fourth quarter en route to the 10-7 win.

In the game that was halted in the fourth quarter due to weather, Derek Bellard led the Skyhawk offense with 206 passing yards and 80 rushing yards.
