LONDON, Ky. – The Campbellsville men's golf team posted an opening round score of 27-over 315 during the first day of the Bill Sergent Invitational, hosted by University of the Cumberlands at Crooked Creek Golf Course.
The Tigers are tied for fourth place and are 16 strokes back of Cumberland University who leads the nine-team tournament after the first round with an 11-over par 299.
Austin Mahoney paced Campbellsville in the first round with a 1-over par 73 on the 6,831-yard course in London, Ky. Mahoney is tied for third overall and is two shots off the lead. After birding his first hole of the day, the freshman played 2-over par for the rest of the round recording bogies on holes No. 3 and 13.
Mahoney's 15 pars on the round are tied for the most in the tournament field.
Tyler Harrod finished his opening round with a 4-over par 76. On the par-72 course, Harrod had three birdies and only had back-to-back pars twice throughout the round – both of which came on the back nine. After the first round, Harrod is tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard.
Justin Warman and
BJ Knox are both tied for 29th in the field after recording a pair of 11-over par 83s. Knox ended his round with three birdies and only had back-to-back pars on holes No. 9 and 10.
Warman ended with 11 pars on the day – which was second-most on the team and tied for ninth-most in the field – while recording his lone birdie of the round on the 520-yard par five No. 12.
Owen Workman rounded out the Tiger lineup after posting a 21-over par 93 on Monday. He recorded his lone birdie of the day at the par-four 16th hole.
Pierce Dahl competed as an individual for Campbellsville, where he fired a 13-over par 85. Dahl had 10 pars during his round and he capped of the day with his only birdie on the 557-yard par 5 at No. 18.
Following Cumberland in the team standings is Midway University and Lawrence Technological University with scores of 23-over par 311 and 24-over par 312, respectively. Walters State Community College is tied with the Tigers at 27-over par 315 to round out the top five.
After the Phoenix, positions two through seven in the team standings are separated by just six strokes.
Union College's Erik Hermanson was the only player to shot under par on Monday as he finished at 1-under par 71. Cody French of Midway is one shot back after carding an even-par 72. Mahoney is one of three players' two shots off the lead after recording a 1-over par 73.
The Tigers conclude the Bill Sergent Invitational on Tuesday morning from Crooked Creek Golf Course in London, Ky.
