CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The eighth-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer team is back on the road for the first time in three matches as the Tigers travel to McKenzie, Tennessee to faceoff against Bethel University on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET.
Campbellsville has won its first five games to start the season and has moved up in the national rating for the last two weeks. The Tigers have allowed just one goal all season and they have stretched their shutout streak to 284:51. Campbellsville's four shutouts this season are the most in the NAIA.
Andreas Nota ranks fourth in the nation with a .230 goals against average.
Of the Tigers last five goals; three have come from penalty spot. The Tigers converted on two penalty kicks against Kentucky Christian University, while
Nathan Heath scored his second penalty kick in as many games against Marian University – which was the only goal scored in that contest.
Ignacio Mangada leads Campbellsville with seven points and three goals.
Yudai Yamauchi and Heath are the only other Tigers with multiple goals this season.
Rickard Hallin and Yamauchi lead Campbellsville with two assists apiece.
Bethel – who is receiving votes in the national poll – enters the week with a record of 4-1-0. The lone loss for the Wildcats came at the beginning of the month at home against Louisiana State University Alexandria, 3-2.
In each of Bethel's four victories it has recorded a shutout and the Wildcats are tied with Campbellsville atop the NAIA with four shutouts. Mustapha Wadda leads Bethel with seven goals and three assists. His 17 points and three assists rank in the top 10 in the nation, while his three game-winning goals are the most in the NAIA. Marco Taaffe has started in goal for all five games this season making seven saves and allowing three goals.
Campbellsville and Bethel last faced each other during the 2009 season in a neutral site contest in Jackson, Tenn. The Wildcats defeated the Tigers, 5-0.
Opening kick between Campbellsville and Bethel is set for 8 p.m. ET – following the women's match – from Wildcat Stadium in McKenzie, Tenn., on Friday night. This match was also selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference Game of the Week.
