CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team continues is three-match homestand and its Mid-South Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Tigers host Shawnee State University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET in the Powell Athletic Center.
Campbellsville snapped its two-match skid on Thursday night with a 3-0 win over Life University to start its homestand. In the three closely contested sets, the Lady Tigers edged out the Running Eagles, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-17.
The Campbellsville offense got back on track late in the match as it hit .318 and .316 over the final two sets against Life, respectively. The Lady Tigers also limited Life to just a .049 attacking percentage over the three sets.
Katie Johnson finished with a match-high 11 kills, while
Maliyah Tela recorded 31 assists in the contest.
On the season, Tela has notched 381 assists on 451 Campbellsville kills, while notching 10.58 assists per set – 13th best in the NAIA. Johnson is second on the team with 87 kills and 94 digs in the Lady Tigers' 11 matches this season.
Shawnee State – who faces Cumberland University on Friday night – begins its weekend with a 6-8 record overall and has split its first two conference matches. After falling to No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College to start its MSC schedule, the Bears rebounded with a five-set win over University of Pikeville.
Entering the weekend, Christina Shelton leads Shawnee State with 148 kills. Carson Roney ranks 16th in the NAIA with a .342 attacking percentage and she also chipped in with 131 kills. Deanna Smith is among the top 40 setters in the nation with 483 assists for the Bears.
Campbellsville won both matches against Shawnee State last season, both coming in four sets. In last year's contest inside Powell Athletic Center last season, the Bears picked up the first set, 26-24, but the Lady Tigers rallied to win the final three sets.
