Mount Vernon Nazarene’s 21st-minute goal sinks Women’s Soccer in 1-0 road loss

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Campbellsville women's soccer team suffered its third-straight loss following a 1-0 defeat at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon.
 
Amanda Howard recorded six saves for the Lady Tigers (2-7-0), while they were shutout of the third-straight match. Amberly Knox recorded the only goal in the match for the Cougars (6-2-0).
 
Campbellsville generated a couple early scoring opportunities with two shots toward goal in less than five minutes. However, the Cougars struck first in the 21st minute as Knox finished off a pass from Morgan Gibson to put Mount Vernon Nazarene on top.
 
Following the goal, the Cougars started to control the play offensively recording five more shots over the final 24 minutes of the first half, while the Lady Tigers could not get off a shot.
 
Mount Vernon Nazarene continued to pressure the Campbellsville backline, but Howard and the Lady Tiger defense stood up to task and did allow any more goals for the Cougars. Mount Vernon Nazarene recorded eight shots in the second half, compared to just three from Campbellsville.
 
Neither team struck gold in the final 45 minutes as the Cougars held on the 1-0 victory at home.
 
Mount Vernon Nazarene finished with seven shots on goal, compared to three from the Lady Tigers. Madi Moore recorded the shutout for the Cougars making three saves.
 
Campbellsville held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, but the Lady Tigers could not produce anything off the set pieces.
 
Next up, Campbellsville begins Mid-South Conference action with a 6 p.m. ET kickoff on Tuesday night against Georgetown College on the road.
