MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. —
Justin Warman fired five birdies in the first round of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Championship and
Owen Workman shot a two-over to sit in first and second place, respectively.
Warman and Workman led the Tigers to a team total of 304 - good enough for first place by 14 strokes over Oakland City University.
Warman's five birdies were an individual-high for the 35-player field. After starting with a birdie on the par five first hole, Warman carded a double-bogey on the third and sixth holes to fall back to one-over after nine holes. He rallied on his final nine holes, rolling in four birdies in a span of seven holes to finished with an even-par 72.
Workman was a little more consistent, firing two birdies on holes No. 8 and 9 but faltered with four bogeys for a two-over 74.
The remaining three Tigers are in the Top 12 after yesterday's first round.
Tyler Harrod finished with a six-over 78 to be tied for sixth, while
BJ Knox sits at eight-over and
Austin Mahoney was nine-over. Knox is tied for ninth and Mahoney rounds out the Tigers in 12
th.
Oakland City shot a team score of 318 to sit in second place after the opening round. Bluefield College is 15 strokes behind (333) to sit in third, while Hiwassee College is 10 strokes behind Bluefield (343) in fourth. Kentucky Christian University is fifth (359), Johnson University is sixth (361) and the host Belhaven is seventh (366).
The final round of the NCCAA Mid-East Region is underway this morning at RTJ Schoolmaster in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship at the Conservatory Course in Hammock Bay Resort, Fla. on Oct. 23-25.
