CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lady Tiger volleyball team wraps up its three-match homestand against University of Pikeville on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET inside the Powell Athletic Center.
After dropping two-straight matches to ranked Mid-South Conference foes, Campbellsville has bounced back and won its last two matches to climb to 10-2 on the season and 3-2 in MSC.
Last time out, the Lady Tigers defeated Shawnee State University in three sets, where
Maria Coelho led the way with 16 kills and
Julia Fonseca chipped in with an attacking percentage of .474 to go along with 10 kills. Fonseca also had a match-high four blocks, while
Marcella Compeau recorded 18 digs to lead the way.
Coelho and
Katie Johnson are both approaching the 100-kill mark with 97 and 93, respectively.
Maliyah Tela has paced the Campbellsville offense with 420 assists and 10.77 assists per set – which ranks ninth in the NAIA. Fonseca has recorded a team-high 35 blocks this season and Johnson leads the Lady Tigers with 108 digs over 12 matches.
Pikeville enters the week with a record of 5-11, while dropping its first three conference matches. The Bears suffered a 3-1 loss at home to Cumberland University in its last match. Savanna Zakman ranks third in the nation with 40 service aces during Pikeville's 16 matches this season. Zakman is also second on the team with 150 digs, while also chipping with 82 kills – third most for the Bears.
Noelani Simpson leads the Pikeville offensive attack with 167 kills and a .208 attacking percentage. Amari Eadie has compiled 12 solo blocks and 44 assisted blocks to lead the frontline.
The Lady Tigers swept the Bears during both matches last season, while Campbellsville has won its last five matches against Pikeville without dropping a set.
Following the end to the three-match homestand, the Lady Tigers will not be back at home over its next eight matches.
Campbellsville is set to take on Pikeville at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night in the Powell Athletic Center.
