Four matches on tap this weekend for Women’s Volleyball at Holiday Inn Express Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team travels to Bourbonnais, Illinois for the 2017 Holiday Inn Express Classic host by Olivet Nazarene University on Friday and Saturday.
 
At the classic, the Lady Tigers are set to face No. 7 Columbia College and Indiana Wesleyan University – who is receiving votes – on Friday. Campbellsville then faces University of St. Francis and Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday to round out the weekend.
 
The Lady Tigers enter the event on three-match win streak after earning sweeps at home over Mid-South Conference foes; Life University, Shawnee State University and University of Pikeville.
 
Campbellsville is 11-2 overall and is 4-2 in the MSC, which places the Lady Tigers third in the conference standings. Campbellsville picked up a 3-0 win over Pikeville during its last match, where Julia Fonseca led the way for the Lady Tigers. Fonseca recorded 19 kills in the match and had 10 kills in the first set alone. Maliyah Tela recorded 43 assists, while Maria Coelho chipped in with 12 kills.
 
As a team, Campbellsville ranks 20th in the nation with a .235 attacking percentage. Tela has recorded 11.02 assists a set this season, which is fourth best in the NAIA. A trio of Lady Tigers have recorded at least 100 kills this season, with Katie Johnson is two kills away from the century mark. Johnson also has a team-best 119 digs in 13 matches this season.
 
Columbia comes into the tournament at 14-3 overall and has won two-straight contests. The Cougars are fourth in the NAIA with 2.78 blocks per set and sixth with a .272 attacking percentage. Zori Curry leads the Columbia block with 70 and 1.32 blocks per set – which is fifth in the country. Caroline Clifford leads the offense for the Cougars with 178 kills, to go along with a .259 attacking percentage.
 
Indiana Wesleyan is 15-3 on the season and has gone 9-1 in the Crossroads League. The Wildcats have won seven-straight and won 13 of its last 14 matches. Lauren Gross ranks 15th in the NAIA with a .343 hitting percentage and she has chipped in with 111 kills, while leading the block with 47. Tay Thomas has recorded a team-high 193 kills for Indiana Wesleyan. Setters Katie Cole and Emily Workman have paced the Wildcats to 12.87 assists per set.
 
St. Francis is currently 8-11 on the year and has alternated wins and losses over its last four matches. Leah Alles leads the Saints defense with 380 digs this season and ranks 12th in the NAIA, while St. Francis ranks 22nd as a team with 1,244 digs. On offense, JoAnna Nowicki has recorded 160 kills to lead the team, but she has an attacking percentage of .146. A trio of Saints have eclipsed 100 kills this season over their first 19 matches.
 
Indiana Tech is currently on a four-match skid and has dropped six of its last eight matches to move to 7-11 this season. The Warriors have only won back-to-back matches once this season as they defeated Shawnee State University in five sets, followed by a four-set victory over University of Michigan-Dearborn. Indiana Tech has a balanced offensive attack with five players with at least 100 kills this season.
 
Last season, Campbellsville faced Columbia, Indiana Wesleyan and St. Francis. The Lady Tigers lost to the Cougars in three sets at the Boneyard Brawl, while Campbellsville fell in four sets to the Wildcats in Marion, Indiana. At the Holiday Inn Express Classic last year, the Lady Tigers lost 3-1 to St. Francis to cap off the first day of the tournament.
 
The last time Campbellsville faced Indiana Tech was during the 2015 season, where the Warriors picked up a 3-0 victory over the Lady Tigers at the Lindsey Wilson College Classic.
 
Saturday's slate for Campbellsville sees the Lady Tigers face Columbia at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a 6 p.m. ET contest against Indiana Wesleyan. Campbellsville then faces St. Francis at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday and the Lady Tigers conclude the classic with a 2 p.m. ET match against Indiana Tech.
 
All four matches take place at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill.
