Top-ranked Martin Methodist defeats Women’s Soccer, 4-0, on Saturday night

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Campbellsville women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to No. 1-ranked Martin Methodist College on Saturday night.

Amanda Howard led the Lady Tigers (2-8-1) with 10 saves in the match. Millene Cabral Vieira scored all four goals for the RedHawks (10-0-0).

Martin Methodist held possession for most of the first half and fired eight shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. Despite the offensive pressure from the RedHawks, the Campbellsville defense stood up to the task and held Martin Methodist without a goal until the 31st minute.

Cabral Vieira converted on penalty kick for Martin Methodist to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Cabral Vieira placed the ball in the lower left corner, while Amanda Howard dove to the right on the shot.

The RedHawks then followed seven minutes later with their second goal of the match. Cabrl Vieira scored once more off an assist from Caroline Ladaga.

During the first half, Campbellsville was unable to generate a shot, while Martin Methodist had 13.

In the second half, the Lady Tiger defense continued its strong play and kept its deficit at two goals. However, Cabral Vieira completed her hat trick in the 77th minute and she scored her fourth goal three minutes later to seal the victory for Martin Methodist.

Campbellsville's offense struggled throughout the match as it only generated one shot, which came in the 89th minute from Hailey Chappell.

The Lady Tigers have now dropped two matches – both coming within the last two weeks – to the top ranked team in the nation.

Martin Methodist outshot Campbellsville, 21-1, and the RedHawks put 14 shots on target.

Campbellsville continues its Mid-South Conference schedule on Tuesday night at home against Cumberland University. Opening kick is set for 6 p.m. ET from Finley Stadium.
