CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team starts its 2017 Mid-South Conference schedule on Tuesday night against University of the Cumberlands on the road at 7 p.m. ET.
The Lady Tigers enter their conference opener with an overall record of 6-0 and they are coming off a 4-0 weekend at the Southeastern Challenge. Campbellsville defeated University of Mobile, Martin Methodist College and Webber International University in three sets, while rallying to take down College of Coastal Georgia, 3-2.
Throughout the first six matches of the season, the Lady Tigers have only dropped two sets – both of which came against Coastal Georgia to wrap up the Southeastern Challenge.
Campbellsville ranks fourth in the NAIA with an attacking percentage of .278 to start the season.
Julia Fonseca has posted a .470 attacking percentage, while four other Lady Tigers have recorded a hitting percentage over .250 this season.
Annija Abolina leads Campbellsville with 69 kills, while
Katie Johnson has chipped in with 54 kills.
Maliyah Tela, who was named the NCCAA Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week, has compiled 209 assists on the year.
Fonseca was named the MSC Defender of the Week after recording 15 blocks last week and she leads the team with 18 total blocks this season.
Cumberlands enters the contest on Tuesday night with a record of 4-3, after suffering a 3-0 loss on the road to Asbury University the last time out. The loss to the Eagles last week snapped a four-game winning streak for the Patriots.
Jessica Severs has a team-high 57 kills this season, while Lynsey Short has racked up 225 assists to pace the Cumberlands offense. Tara Routliffe ranks fourth in the NAIA with 6.6 digs per set and has a total of 144 digs this season.
Over its first seven matches, the Patriots have only gone past the third set once. Cumberlands won all four of its matches, 3-0, while its only loss that went past the fourth set was to No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan, 3-1.
In two matchups last season, the Lady Tigers went 2-0 against the Patriots. Campbellsville first won its match at home against Cumberlands, 3-2, while the Lady Tigers swept the match in Williamsburg, Ky.
During the match at Cumberlands last season, Abolina led Campbellsville with 12 kills and a pair of blocks, while
Jessie Pendleton recorded a match-high 25 digs.
