COLUMBIA, Ky. — Sophomore
Justin Warman was one of only two golfers in the field to fire a second round in the 60s and led the Tigers to a third-place finish at the Lindsey Wilson Fall Classic.
Warman, who started the day tied for 24
th, climbed all the way to a tie for ninth with a three-under 69 this afternoon at The Pines.
Playing in their first collegiate tournaments, CJ Knox,
Owen Workman and
Austin Mahoney all finished in the Top 22. Knox also improved drastically in the second round by firing a two-under 70 today. He finished one stroke behind Warman in the tournament and placed tied for 13
th.
Workman, who was on fire yesterday with a 69, fell off the pace today with a seven-over 79 to finish tied for 18
th. Mahoney also took a huge step forward by improving eight strokes from round one with a two-under 70.
The last Tigers in the Top 5 counting scores for CU was
Justin Riffle. He dropped seven strokes today and finished with a second round 81 to place tied for 38
th.
Tyler Harrod,
Pierce Dahl and
Seito Miyazaki were all competing as individuals. Harrod fired a two-over 74 to place tied for 25
th, while Dahl shot a 77 and was tied for 30
th. Miyaski finished with matching 71s to be tied for 36
th.
"I was very pleased with our results," said coach
Jim Ward. We were within striking distance of Lindsey Wilson and Shawnee State both. These results makes us feel we are headed in the right direction as a program. We are extremely proud of our three freshman as they held their own in their first collegiate tournament."
As a team, the Tigers improved four strokes from Monday's first round. CU (580) out-shot Oakland City (585) for third place, while West Virginia Tech (589) was right behind Oakland City in fifth. Asbury University (597), Brescia (598) and Union College (598) finished sixth and tied for seventh, respectively.
Individually, Oakland City's Mitchell Frederick was low-medalist with a tournament total of five-under. He out-shot Shawnee State's Jordan Tieman (four-under) and Lindsey Wilson's Callum Blinkhorn (three-under) and Rasmus Lind (one-under).
The Tigers will now have two weeks before competing in the Mid-South Conference Fall Championship on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 18-19 at Cherry Blossom GC in Georgetown, Ky.
