No. 15 Tigers fall on the road to No. 24 Cumberlands and drops to 0-2 in conference play

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – No. 24 University of the Cumberlands took the game to Campbellsville on Thursday night and out-matched the 15th-ranked Tigers, 88-73.
 
The road loss drops the Tigers to 0-2 in the Mid-South Conference and 15-3 overall. Cumberlands improves to 14-2 and 2-0 inside MSC play.
 
CU finished with three different players in double-figures, led by Duke Robinson and Adam Stanford's 13 points. Deion Evans also pitched in 12 points as the three combined to scored 38 of the 46 bench points for CU.

Cumberlands was led by Chance Morton's 15 points, while the Patriots had four separate players in double-figures. The UC starters out-scored CU's 61-28.
 
Campbellsville got off to a slow start with Cumberlands jumping out to an early 15-1 lead with just under four minutes gone in the game. After falling behind the eight ball early, the Tigers chipped into the deficit and went on a 16-5 run to pull within three points with 9:17 left in the opening half.
 
After the run, Campbellsville continued to hang around, but could only get as a close as three points two different times.
 
With the Patriots leading 26-23, they found another surge and compiled a 12-0 run to push their lead to 38-23. After the Tigers made the score 26-23, Cumberlands outscored Campbellsville, 20-7 over the final seven minutes of the first half.
 
The Tigers made just two field goals over the final seven minutes – both coming from Coleman.  Campbellsville shot 32 percent in the first 20 minutes, while Cumberlands was 56 percent from the floor as the Patriots led 46-30 at the intermission.
 
To start the second half, the Cumberlands offense continued to fire on all cylinders as it made three of its first four shots of the second stanza.
 
Campbellsville trailed by 19 points with 16:23 left to play in regulation, but the Tigers did not back down and compiled a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 59-47 forcing the Patriots into a timeout. Out of the timeout, Cumberlands regained its 19-point lead and kept the game out of reach the rest of the way.
 
The Tigers will now complete the road trip on Saturday at Life University in Marietta, Ga. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET in the Eagles Nest.
