Tiger football heads to Cumberland University looking to end streak since 2009

LEBANON, Tenn. — Tiger football gets back on the road this weekend in Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division play as they travel to Cumberland University on Saturday night. 
 
Kickoff between the Tigers and Phoenix is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET with the Tiger Tailgate Show beginning at 6:30. Fans can tune into the CU Sports Network with Jim Freeman and Matt Payton for the action. 
 
The Tigers enter the week with a 2-4 record and 1-1 inside Bluegrass Divisional play. Campbellsville enters after falling to No. 10 Bethel University on Homecoming, 49-13. Cumberland University is 3-4 on the year and also boasts a 1-1 record inside the MSC. 
 

Tiger Clawz:
  • Campbellsville is looking to get back above .500 in MSC play with its third Bluegrass Division contest.
  • The Tigers 1-2 while playing road games this season and won their last contest away from Finley Stadium - at KCU, 35-27.
  • While playing night games this year, the Tigers are 0-3 overall.
  • Freshman Josh Davis is set to make his third straight start at QB. A freshman QB hasn't won at Cumberland since 2009 when Robert Hill led the Tigers to the 38-37 win.
  • Campbellsville is coming in after a 49-13 loss to Bethel on Homecoming. The 13 points is the third-lowest the Tigers have scored this season. CU lost 45-9 to Webber International and 16-10 to Faulkner,
  • After averaging more than 40 points per game the last four seasons, the Tigers are nowscoring 19.7 points per game in 2018.
  • Ormoni Zanders has come into his own lately rushing for over 72 yards in each of his last three games. He had 115 and 125 yards vs. KCU and Bethel before running for 72 against Bethel last weekend. He leads the rushing attack with three TDs this year.
  • Kendon Young has 19 career receiving touchdowns - which are tied for third with Stan Warrenhuffman in CU history. Tyus Alcorn leads the way with 36 career TDs.
  • Defensive back BJ Pelt has 10 career interceptions - which ranks him tied for 6th in program history. William Mulder and Mark Carroll both lead CU football with 16. 
Series Facts:
  • In the all-time series, Campbellsville holds a 15-13 edge over Cumberland.
  • The Phoenix and Tigers have played every season since Cumberland reinstated football in 1990.
  • The Tigers have an 8-6 record while playing in Lebanon, Tenn. but haven't won there since 2009.
  • Over the last 10 meetings, Campbellsville and Cumberland have traded results. The Tigers won last year, though, 58-34,
  • The last time either team won back-to-back games was from 2006 to 2008 when the Phoenix won three-straight games.

Scouting Cumberland University:
  • Cumberland enters the week with a 3-4 record and 1-1 inside MSC Bluegrass play. 
  • The Phoenix are coming off a close 13-7 loss to Georgetown College last week. Georgetown led 13-0 after scoring a touchdown in the first quarter and a field goal each in the second and third, but Cumberland got back into the game in the fourth with its lone touchdown. 
  • Cumberland forced six fumbles against Georgetown and recovered three. There were nine total fumbles overall. 
  • The Phoenix are led by Dezmon Huntley at QB. He is 70-of-144 with 938 yards and five touchdowns on the year. His season-high in passing yards came against Union (209). 
  • The Phoenix plan to win via the running game as they have to running backs with over 350 yards. Telvin Rucker leads the way with 419 yards and 4 TDs, while Huntley has 356 yards and five TDs. 
  • Cumberland has scored only 12 touchdowns this year - 10 rushing and 5 throwing.
