CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After answering a four-match losing streak with a four-match winning streak, Campbellsville women's volleyball starts the final stretch of Mid-South Conference matches Tuesday night as they hit the road to face the University of the Cumberlands.
The Patriots and the Lady Tigers have similar records heading into their matchup as CU is 15-8 and Cumberlands is 16-8. They are third and fourth in the conference respectively with Campbellsville in third at 6-2 with the Patriots having the same amount of wins but more losses at 6-4.
The last time these two teams met this season, it was a closely contested, five-set match that saw the Lady Tigers come out on top in the end. CU won the second and fourth sets after falling behind 1-0 and 2-1 to the Patriots as their comeback effort was powered by outside hitters Katie Johnson (16),
Maria Coelho (16) and
Sonia Flendrich (13) who combined for 75-percent of the 60 kills for Campbellsville.
In their current four-match win streak, CU earned two sweep victories over Pikeville and Fisk, a four-set win over Xavier (La.) and a five-set win over Cumberland. Their two most recent wins, against Fisk and Xavier came in the Green River Classic last Saturday at the Powell Athletic Center.
Campbellsville will face a challenge of two road matches this week, as the Lady Tigers are 9-8 away from the Powell Athletic Center and 2-4 in true road matches this season.
After the match against Cumberlands, CU will travel to Life University Saturday afternoon before playing two matches at home next week.
