Blumfeldt's hat trick leads Lady Tigers to first conference win over Shawnee State, 6-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Rachel Blumfeldt recorded her second-career hat trick and Lakin Walls scored twice to lead Campbellsville women's soccer to its first Mid-South Conference victory of the year over Shawnee State, 6-1.

The Lady Tigers (7-4, 1-1 MSC) needed just eight minutes to put the game out of reach as Walls scored in the sixth and Blumfeldt followed in the eighth to put CU ahead early, 2-0.

In the 13th, freshman Hope Sanders found the back of the net just outside the 18-yard box to put CU ahead, 3-0, and Campbellsville cruised the rest of the way.

Blumfeldt's three goals push her total to six on the year, while Walls now has the team-lead at nine. In the 43rd, Blumfeldt out-ran the defense 65-yards and finished past Michaela Garner back-post.

With the 4-0 lead at halftime, the Lady Tigers held the advantage in shots, 20-3, with 13 of the 20 on goal. Shawnee State had two of its three shots in the first 45 minutes on goal.

The second half started with the Bears picking up their lone goal, as Destiny Chester ruined the Katelyn Young shutout in the 68th.

But that little momentum didn't last long, as Walls went upper-90 to answer in the 70thminute to give the Lady Tigers the five-goal advantage.

Blumfeldt capped the night with her final score as she rebounded a miss and finished past Garner once more in the 87th. The late score capped her second-career hat trick as her first came last year against Life University on Oct. 14.

Katelyn Young finished the night with 78-plus minutes in goal, while Sydney Pinkham completed the final 12-plus. Young had four saves – two in each half, while Pinkham had two.

Campbellsville will now hit the road on Sunday as the Lady Tigers travel to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
