CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After one of the most exciting matches of the season, Campbellsville women's volleyball will host Shawnee State University at Gosser Gymnasium Friday night.
The Lady Tigers are now in second place in the Mid-South Conference standings after their five-set victory over Georgetown, who was in second place before the match on Tuesday. CU showed they could pull out a tightly contested match as no set was won by more than three points the entire night.
Maria Coelho led the way for CU against GC with 20 kills for her third-straight match leading the team in that category.
Paige Merrick assisted on 55 kills for her second-highest season total and
Jaimie Thompson added a career high 41 digs in the match.
Earlier this season, the Lady Tigers defeated Shawnee 3-1 in Portsmouth, Ohio for their second MSC win of the season on Sept. 11. Coelho (19), Katie Johnson (19) and
Sonia Flendrich (16) dominated in the kill department while all also hit over .200 in the match.
The Bears won their most recent match on Tuesday against Pikeville in a sweep prior to losing their previous four matches. Offensively, three attackers are within 10 kills of each other as Carson Roney leads the way with 270 along with 268 from Macie Rhoads and 262 from Tyanna Smith.
Shawnee is 12-17 on the year with a 2-9 Mid-South Conference record as their only two conference wins have been against Pikeville.
As the season nears its end, Campbellsville will play one more road match after they host Shawnee State to take on Cumberland University next Tuesday. Then they will host their final MSC match of the season against Lindsey Wilson before hosting Brescia University for Senior Night in a non-conference matchup.
