CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After one of their longest matches of the year on Tuesday against Georgetown, CU women's volleyball made quick work of Shawnee State University Friday night in their sweep victory.
The Lady Tigers won all three sets by six or more points as the sets with 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 in just an hour and 11 minutes at the Gosser Gymnasium.
The match was not a beginning to end domination by Campbellsville as the Bears had a lead in every set but the Lady Tigers went on runs in each set to build leads that Shawnee State couldn't come back from.
Offensively, two CU attackers hit double-digit kills as
Maria Coelho once again led the way for the Lady Tigers with 13 kills and
Sonia Flendrich added 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double.
Middle blocker
Julia Fonseca saw her most action in a match since returning from a minor injury and had a big impact in the match. Fonseca recorded six kills in 10 attempts and an error for a .500 while also adding a solo block and four block assists.
Setter
Paige Merrick stuffed the stat sheet on Friday night with 35 assists, seven digs, six service aces, five kills, and two block assists.
The Lady Tigers move to 10-2 in the Mid-South Conference with two conference matches remaining next week. First they will play on the road at Cumberland University next Tuesday before hosting Lindsey Wilson next Thursday for Dig Pink Night.
