CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 2018 Campbellsville football season ended on a high note for the Tigers Saturday afternoon as they blew out Cincinnati Christian University by a final of 59-12 at Finley Stadium.
Saturday was senior day for the Tigers as they recognized 15 seniors for their careers in a Campbellsville uniform.
CU scored a touchdown in all three phases of the game before the end of the first half. In fact, the Tigers had an offensive, defensive and special teams touchdown all in the second quarter alone.
The second quarter against the Eagles was the best quarter of the season for CU as their 24 points were the most they had scored in a quarter all season.
With a lead 7-0 after a quarter, the Tigers went on a methodical drive that went 77 yards in 14 plays and 5:18 of game times capped off by a four-yard rush by
Kendon Young. Young finished the game with 166 all-purpose yards, leading the team in rushing and receiving catching five passes for 107 yards and also rushing for 59.
Just 11 seconds later, CU got a pick-six from
Garland Webb who intercepted Eagles' quarterback Alex Duran and returned it 20 yards to the house to extend the lead to 21-0.
After a 24-yard field goal from
Noah Bicksler made it 24-0, CCU went to punt with the clock under a minute to go in the half. Senior
Jordan Duff caught it on the CU 33-yard line, got a couple of blocks, reversed field and scored a 67-yard punt return touchdown with 43 seconds left in the second quarter to put the Tigers up 31-0 at halftime.
Duff was the first of three seniors to reach pay dirt for CU on Saturday's senior day. In the second half,
Brayden Russell and Aiden Stewart-Hoskins also scored for the Tigers.
Russell caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from
Talaileva Sufia for Sufia's first career touchdown pass to make the score 52-12 at that point. Russell also blocked a CCU extra point to finish with four blocked kicks on the season, tying him for most by a Tiger in a single season. Russell tied Blake Young who accomplished the feat back in 2012.
Stewart-Hoskins scored his first career touchdown as a senior on senior day with a three-yard run. The drive was all running plays from Stewart-Hoskins as he had runs of 13 yards and 23 yards before punching it in on 2
nd and goal from the three-yard line.
The first score of the game came with 10 seconds left in the first quarter as
Josh Davis hit
Jordan Brown with a 33-yard pass on a 4
th and 13 play. Davis and Sufia were sharing playing time early in the first quarter but Davis seemed to hold on to the job after that pass to play much of the second and third quarters before Sufia returned in the fourth.
In the third quarter, each team scored two touchdowns as CU had two long touchdown runs and the Eagles scored on a couple of 78-yard drives.
For the Tigers' third quarter touchdowns,
Darquan Richardson scored on a career-high 36-yard rush.
Kendon Young also scored his second rushing touchdown of the game with a 43-yard run.
Campbellsville finished the season with a 4-6 overall record and a 3-3 record in the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division.
