Ottawa scores early and late to win opening Pool Pool match over Lady Tigers, 2-0

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Ottawa University scored a pair of goals in the early and late stages of the opening round of NCCAA Pool Play to down Campbellsville, 2-0. 
 
The loss moves Campbellsville to 13-9 overall but 0-1 inside the national tournament pool play rounds. The Lady Tigers will now play Trinity Christian College on Tuesday afternoon at 12 p.m. ET to attempt to equal its record. 
 
No. 4-seeded Ottawa University moves to 12-5-2 overall and 1-0 inside Pool A. The Spirit No. 8-seeded Columbia International tomorrow afternoon as well. 
 
Ottawa is tied with Trinity Christian College atop Pool A. The Trolls defeated Columbia International, 8-2, in the earlier match. 
 
Today, it was Campbellsville dominating the possession and shot count early in the game, but Ottawa changed that quickly in the second half.
 
Kiiaweau Aweau scored her second goal of the year after rebounding a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar by Sydnee Busby. 
 
The Lady Tigers had multiple opportunities to equalize but couldn't find the back of the net. Lakin Walls had a chance in the 6thminute, while Rachel McWilliams had an attempt saved by goalkeeper Emily Kriplean. In the 11thminute, Walls had a pair of chances denied once more as her first shot was blocked and the second was saved. 
 
That's how Campbellsville's day would end up going. Kriplean had a solid afternoon in goal with seven saves total, including two chances on an open net in the second half. 
 
In the 48th, Molly Hall found possession after a hard-nosed play to win a ball away from the keeper in front of the 18 but her shot was saved by the Ottawa defense.  
 
The Spirit took a 2-0 lead in the 77thminute as Busby chipped a shot over Katelyn Young for her third point of the day. 
 
The Lady Tigers had two more chances to ruin the shutout and pick up much needed points in Pool Play rounds. In the 84th, Kriplean went down again after a hard play just outside the box but Rachel Blumfeldt's attempt went wide on an open net. 
 
Claudia Eckstein also had a rocket-shot off a free kick in the 88thbut Kriplean was there for her final save. 
 
Overall the Lady Tigers out-shot Ottawa, 18-15, and each keeper tallied seven saves.
