Trinity Christian capitalizes on costly mistakes; Lady Tigers fall 4-2 in NCCAA Pool Play

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Top-seeded Trinity Christian College used its two prolific goal scorers to tally four goals to down five-seeded Campbellsville University women's soccer in NCCAA Pool Play rounds. 
 
The Trolls (19-2-1) are led by Jessica Bianchi and Selah Hopkins and both had their way with the Lady Tigers in counter attacks. Bianchi scored three goals – which total 34 on the year - and assisted the fourth, while Hopkins tallied her 23rdof the year. 
 
Campbellsville's goals came from captain Lakin Walls and midfielder Rachel Blumfeldt
 
The Lady Tigers fall to 0-2 inside Pool Play and 13-10 overall on the year. CU will now play Columbia International in its final pool play game on Thursday afternoon. Trinity Christian and Ottawa are both 2-0 inside the pool and square off tomorrow to determine who will reach the NCCAA Championship round. 
 
Today, the scoring started early for Trinity Christian as Bianchi scored in the fourth minute. The Lady Tigers had an opportunity to even the score in the 26thbut Blumfeldt's first shot of the day was saved after a 2v2 opportunity. 
 
The duo of Bianchi and Hopkins strike again on a counter attack in the 29th. Hopkins passed a long ball across the box and Bianchi finished past Katelyn Young
 
But Campbellsville rallied and started to play its game late in the half. Caludia Eckstein found Walls for a back-post score in the 30thminute to cut the deficit in half. CU had multiple chances late in the half to equalize but Blumfeldt and Eckstein both had shots saved by Allyson Kranstz. 
 
The Trolls struck early in the second half after costly mistakes by Campbellsville. Bianchi tallied her hat trick in the 51stafter Young lost a loose ball in the box and Bianchi scored on an open net. In the 58th, Hopkins got in on the scoring to put Trinity Christian up 4-1. 
 
Just 31 seconds later, Blumfeldt found the back of the net for her 10thgoal of the year.  It was too little too late for the Lady Tigers, though. Campbellsville out-shot the Trolls, 13-12, but Trinity Christian had nine of its 12 shots on frame and were forcing the issue offensively all afternoon. 
 
Campbellsville's season will conclude on Thursday afternoon as CU and Columbia International kickoff at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex at 2:30 p.m. ET.
