Lady Tigers look to win second NCCAA Championship in program history this week

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — The 2018 NCCAA Women's Volleyball Championship gets underway on Thursday at the College of the Ozarks as Campbellsville University enters as the No. 4 seed. 
 
The Lady Tigers, who are in Pool A, along with top-seeded Biola University, No. 5-seed Southwestern Christian and No. 8 Piedmont International. 
 
CU will play all three in Pool Play and attempt to reach the NCCAA Championship match for the third straight season. 
 
Campbellsville and Southwestern Christian get underway on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. ET. The Lady Tigers also face off with Piedmont International at 5:00 on Thursday. 
 
Friday will feature the final pool play match vs. Biola at 11 a.m. ET and also the semifinal rounds that evening. The finals will be played on Saturday, Dec. 2. 
 
The only opponent the Lady Tigers have faced before is Biola. The two met last season in the finals with Biola winning 3-1.

Campbellsville Lady Tigers
  • Campbellsville enters the week with a 24-9 record. 
  • The Lady Tigers reached the NCCAA Championship by beating Oakland City University in the Mid-East Regional Championship, 3-0. 
  • The appearance in the NCCAA Championship is the eighth in history (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017)
  • The Lady Tigers won the title in 2009 – which was the first team championship in CU history. That 2009 team was recently inducted into the CU Hall of Fame. 
  • The Lady Tigers are led by 2017 All-American Maria Coelho with 370 kills. 
  • Coelho leads the Lady Tigers with 20 double-figure kill matches this season. 
  • Setter Paige Merrick is one of the best in the NAIA. She's tallied 1160 assists – which is 28thin the country. 
  • Merrick's 55 aces rank No. 25. 
Biola University
  • Biola boasts a 25-6 record entering the NCCAA Championship and is the top-ranked team in the country at the NCCAA DI level. 
  • The Eagles ran through the NCCAA West Region without giving up a set. They swept Ottawa University in the finals to earn the automatic bid. 
  • Sierra Bauder became Biola's first NCAA Division II All-American earlier this week. The senior middle blocker was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association with All-American third team recognition. She was also named AVCA All-West Region, All-PacWest first team and PacWest Conference Player of the Year.
  • She set a new conference record for hitting percentage (.440) and had a career-high in kills (294) to lead Biola's offense.  
  • Senior Karly Dantuma has now become the 15th Biola player to pass the 1,000-kill plateau and sits at 1,190 for her career. Dantuma also has a chance to eclipse 300 career blocks (297). If she does reach 300, she'd be just the fourth player in Biola history to have 1,000+ kills and 300+ blocks.
  • Head Coach Aaron Seltzer is in his 17th season at the helm of the BU Volleyball squad. He's the winningest coach in program history with an all-time mark of 457-139 (.767). 
Southwestern Christian
  • The Eagles enter the tourney with a 21-9 record and went 13-7 inside the Sooner Athletic Conference. 
  • Southwestern Christian earned an at-large bid to the championship field after falling in straight sets to College of the Ozarks in the Central Region semifinal. 
  • The championship appearance is the first for the volleyball program. 
  • Cashlyn Munroe leads the Eagles with 423 kills on the year and 4.15 kills per set. Her 423 kills ranks No. 30 in the NAIA and her 4.1 assists per match is 12thin the country. 
Piedmont International
  • The Bruins are making their first appearance in the NCCAA Championship. 
  • Piedmont International boasts an 18-12 record this season
  • Won the South Regional with a 3-0 win over Brewton-Parker to claim the automatic bid. 
  • The Bruins are led by Olivia Bullard's 279 kills and 3.03 kills per set. She also is second on the team with 26 aces on the year. 
  • The setter is Hannah Carter. She's tallied 682 assists in part-time action, while Chelsea Edwards has 228.
