First national championship team, 2009 Lady Tigers, being inducted into Athletics Hall of Fame

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Director of Athletics Jim Hardy and Vice President of Athletics Rusty Hollingsworth is pleased to announce that the 2009 Campbellsville University women's volleyball program is the next entry into the Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 2009 Campbellsville University women's volleyball program becomes the third team inducted in the CU Athletics Hall of Fame after winning the 2009 NCCAA National Championship – which was the first team championship in school history.

The Campbellsville University athletics administration invites all fans and families of the 2009 national championship team to a Hall of Fame Reception on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Betty Dobbins Heilman House (President's House). The reception will last from 11-12:30 p.m. and the team will be formerly inducted into the Hall of Fame at halftime of the Tiger football game, which starts at 1:30.

The '09 Lady Tigers posted a 38-13 overall record and finished 11-2 inside Mid-South Conference play.

After falling in the MSC Tournament Championship match, the Lady Tigers thought their season was over but learned it earned a bid into the National Christian College Athletic Association Regional Tournament. CU dominated the Regional Championship by sweeping all three matches to earn a bid to the National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida. Once there, the Lady Tigers dropped only three sets in five total matches to win the university's first team national championship in history. CU defeated Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Dec. 5, 2009 in impressive fashion (25-13, 25-15, 25-23) to claim the title.

The Lady Tigers were led by First-Team All-MSC performers, Shannon Cahill, Caroline Martin and Renee Netherton. Caitlin Dresing and Samantha James also earned MSC Honorable Mention. After the NCCAA Championship, Netherton was named First-Team All-American and Cahill earned Second-Team honors. Also, head coach Randy LeBleu was named the NCCAA Coach of the Year.

At time of induction on Nov. 10, 2018, the team championship is one of seven in Campbellsville University history.

Members of the team included: Jovana Koprivica, Whitney Haynes, Caitlin Dresing, Brooke Marcum, Lilian daSilva, Tiarra Wilham, Lilian Odek, Renee Netherton, Caroline Martin, Samantha James, Shannon Cahill, Christiana Sindelar, Head Coach Randy LeBleu, assistant coach Amy Eckenfels, assistant athletic trainer Jim Nichols, along with President Michael V. Carter and Director of Athletics Rusty Hollingsworth.
