CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After the conclusion of the regular season, Lady Tiger volleyball will enter championship season with the start of the Mid-South Conference tournament Thursday night.
Campbellsville will face the seven seed Shawnee State University in the first round Thursday at 6:00 p.m. ET in the third match of the day in at Bowling Green High School.
CU finished their 2018 regular season with a 21-8 overall record and 11-2 in MSC play to earn the second seed in the tournament. The Lady Tigers are also in the midst of a 10-game winning streak to end the regular season dating back to Oct. 2 against Cumberland University.
The Lady Tigers also finished the regular season going undefeated at home in their nine matches. They also finished the season with a winning record on the road at 5-4 and a winning record in neutral site games finishing at 7-4.
Statistically, five CU players recorded triple-digit kills led by
Maria Coelho who finished with 321 kills on 984 attempts for a .143 hitting percentage. Katie Johnson (272),
Sonia Flendrich (238),
Julia Fonseca (167) and
Yelysaveta Sharkova (113) were the other four to hit the century mark in kills during 2018.
Setter
Paige Merrick broke 1,000 assists during her freshman campaign with her total of 1,046 for the Lady Tigers. The freshman duo of Merrick and Flendrich have really come into their own during their first year at Campbellsville.
In their two matches against Shawnee State, the Lady Tigers have only dropped one set all together. In their first match on Sept. 11, CU won the first, third and fourth sets 25-20, 25-13 and 25-17 in Portsmouth, Ohio. In the second match in Campbellsville, the Lady Tigers swept their way to victory 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19.
With a win, the Lady Tigers would play a semi-final match against the winner of the 3/6 match-up between Georgetown and Life Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
