Faulkner's career-high 29 points push #3 Lady Tigers to win over #17 Loyola University

Box Score NEW ORLEANS — Madison Faulkner scored a career-high 29 points and Madison Stewart secured a 79-75 win over No. 17 Loyola University with two free throws remaining in the final seconds on Friday night.

Faulkner's 29 eclipses her mark from last year, which she totaled twice, at 23 points. She was 11-of-24 from the floor but 7-of-10 from the charity stripe and grabbed a team-high six boards, which tied Stewart's mark as well. In addition, Caitlin Hall dished out nine assists and she now has 26 dimes on the year, which averages out to 8.3 assists per game for the junior.

It was a knock down drag out the entire night as the largest lead for the third-ranked Lady Tigers (3-0) came in the third quarter at nine points. But it was the 3-point basket that kept Loyola in the game and also the Lady Tigers big fella in the paint, Jordan Doram, was in foul trouble all night.

The Wolfpack was 12-of-25 from beyond the 3-point line (48%), while the Lady Tigers were 4-of-17 (23%).

Doram, who was also in foul trouble in the season opener against Brescia University, picked up two early fouls and was a non-factor most of the night. But it was Faulkner who stepped up in her absence and another Madison, Madison Kaiser, came off the bench to drop 14 points in her first action this season after missing the first two games with a foot injury. Savannah Gregory also scored in double figures with 13.

At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers led 21-18. But Loyola scored all its points in the second frame via the long ball by making five 3-pointers. The Wolfpack trailed CU, 40-33, after hitting 50 percent (7-of-14) from beyond the arc, after 20 minutes of play.

Campbellsville took its largest lead of nine points, 42-33, just a few seconds into the third quarter but that lead didn't last long. The Wolfpack went on an 11-2 run to knot the game at 44-all with 6:18 left in the frame.

During that stretch, CU was 0-for-6 and had a turnover, while the only points came from the free throw line as Faulkner nailed two of her seven. On the night, the Lady Tigers were 21-of-27 (77.7%).

CU was able to push its lead back to six points, 55-49, after a Sammy Rogers field goal and ended the third quarter leading by four points, 59-55.

The fourth frame went back and fourth as well. Loyola started the quarter on an 8-2 run and led, 63-61, but a Savannah Gregory triple and two free throws put CU back ahead, 66-63, with 5:18 left.

The Wolfpack were trailing 69-65 but another 8-2 run put them back ahead, 73-71, with 2:57 left. Stewart then scored three-straight after hitting the back-end of the bonus and hitting a jumper with 1:22 left, giving CU a 74-73 lead, sparking a late 8-2 run for Campbellsville.

Campbellsville had a chance to ice it with five seconds left but Caitlin Hall missed the first of two free throws and the second was negated after a lane violation, giving Loyola a chance.

But Kaila Anthony, who led Loyola with 21 points, turned the ball over with four seconds left – which was one of the 26 turnovers for the Wolfpack.

Stewart then stepped to the line and buried a pair of free throws to ice it for Campbellsville.

Campbellsville's win pushes them to 3-0 on the season and the Lady Tigers will now play University of Mobile on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
