Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brett Tudela

Career night for Adams carries Tigers to 90-53 win over Carver College

COLUMBIA, Ky. – On a night that saw Campbellsville men's basketball shoot their worst percentage (45.7%) from the field, the Tigers still defeated Carver College 90-53 Friday night at the Lindsey Wilson Classic.

One-third of the CU points scored came from one man as guard Stephaun Adams tied his career-high with 30 points on the night. Adams also finished an assist shy of a double-double and recorded a career-high seven steals on the game.

The first half was the scoring half for Adams as he dropped 22 of his 30 points in the opening 20 minutes to help CU lead 44-20 at the break. If CU didn't get his 7-for-11 from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point land, the Tigers would have shot 9-for-28 (32.1%) from the field in the first half.

The opening period was somewhat of an oddity in general from the field for the Tigers as they hit nine three-point field goals and seven two-point field goals. While being carried by those threes, CU outscored the Cougars 38-13 to finish the half after trailing 7-6 at the 14:37 mark.

The second half was the half for steals and assists for Adams as he recorded seven of his nine assists and six of his seven steals in his 14 minutes in the second half.

Hagen Tyler (16), Andrew Smith (14) and Deion Evans (10) were the Tigers other than Adams to score in double figures on Friday night. Smith added 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, Adams added six boards and Tyler also grabbed four rebounds and three assists.

CU had an exceptional turnover margin in the game at +15, committing a season-low six turnovers compared to the 21 from Carver. The Tigers also shared the ball well, recording 23 assists, coming up one assist short of their season-high of 24, which they've done three times this season.

Carver's Antonio Gardner finished with a double-double of his own, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds but also committing eight of the 21 Cougar turnovers. CC's other double figure scorers were Rayford Washington with 13 and Merdy Mongozi with 10.

The game was an oddity in the foul department as only six total fouls were called in the game, with each team having a full half without committing a foul. Carver committed the only foul in the first half on an Adams three-point attempt as the Tigers committed all five of their fouls in the second half.

The Tigers will have a quick turnaround followed by a long layoff coming up after Friday's win. Next Monday, CU will host Simmons College of Kentucky at 6 p.m. at the Powell Athletic Center as part of a double-header with Lady Tiger basketball. That game will be followed with an 18-day layoff before the Tigers' next game on Dec. 29.
