NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Campbellsville's men's tennis team started its 2018 spring season with a 9-0 victory over Indiana University Southeast on Saturday night on the road in New Albany, Ind.
The Tigers (1-0) swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead in the match and they dropped a combined five games over the three matches. The fifth-ranked doubles pair of
Chrys Castro and
Alejandro Reyes got Campbellsville started with an 8-1 win over Garrett Fensler and Bradley Cross at No. 1 doubles.
In the second- and third-seeded doubles matches, Campbellsville took down the Grenadiers (3-4) by a pair of 8-2 contests.
Pablo Alonso Munoz teamed up with
Adrian Sabrojo to defeat Dane Baldwin and Daulton Fensler at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 doubles match,
Blayze O'Keefe and
Martin Munoz took down Zach Kelly and Brock Winchell to round out doubles action.
O'keefe started the singles portion of the dual with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Winchell at No. 3 singles and Castro clinched the win for the Tigers after beating Cross in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) at the second-seeded singles match.
With the match in hand, Reyes rallied from a set down to win 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 at No. 1 singles and then Munoz defeated Daulton Fensler at No. 5 singles, 8-6. Rounding out the match, Alonso Munoz won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and
Mehdi Bichiri beat Baldwin at No. 6 singles, 8-4.
Campbellsville returns to action next Friday against NCAA Division II Bellarmine University at 8 p.m. ET from Louisville, Ky.
