Final road trip for Men’s Basketball begins on Thursday night at Shawnee State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville men's basketball hits the road for one last time this season as it travels to Shawnee State University to begin a two-game road on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET from Portsmouth, Ohio.
 
The Tigers snapped its two-game skid last Saturday as they defeated No. 21 University of the Cumberlands at home, 71-53. The victory marked the first time head coach Brent Vernon beat his alma mater after dropping the first three matchups since taking over as head coach of Campbellsville last season.

Against the Patriots, the Tigers had one of their best defensive performances of the season after they gave up a season-low 53 points and also allowed Cumberlands to make just 17 field goals. Andrew Smith scored a game-high 24 points, while also leading Campbellsville in outscoring Cumberlands in the paint 46-14. Smith scored 20 of his 24 points in the point against the Patriots.
 
Smith leads the Tigers this season with 13.5 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. The junior also ranks eighth in the NAIA with 43 blocks and 14th in field goal percentage at 58.7 percent.
 
Coming into Thursday's matchup, Shawnee State has dropped its last three games to slip to 12-14 on the season and 2-8 in the Mid-South Conference. In the last two losses for the Bears, they have lost by a combined five points and pushed then-No. 5 Lindsey Wilson College into overtime on the road.
 
Jayllen Carter has led Shawnee State this season in averaging 15.7 points per game, while Frederick Moore is the leading rebounder with 7.4 rebounds per game. Moore also notched his 1,000th career point last week and he is second on the team with 14.2 points per game. EJ Onu – who is the second-best shot blocker in the country with 85 – has led the Shawnee State to being ranked No. 2 in the NAIA with 130 total blocks this season.
 
Campbellsville leads the all-time series against Shawnee State, 15-7, and the Tigers have won the last seven meetings in the series. Earlier this season, Campbellsville edged the Bears at home, 66-58, to start a three-game winning streak. The last time Shawnee State beat the Tigers was during the 2014-15 season when the Bears earned a 63-61 win at home on Jan. 24, 2015.
 
Entering the last two weeks of the regular season, Campbellsville is sixth in the conference standings with a 4-6 mark and trails three teams tied for second place by just two games. Shawnee State is eighth in the Mid-South at 2-8 with just four games left to play.
 
Opening tip on Thursday night is set for 8 p.m. ET from Waller Gymnasium.
