Tigers outscore St. Francis and Indiana Tech 20-1 en route to a pair of neutral site wins

WESTFIELD, Ind. – Campbellsville scored 20 runs in two games on Tuesday afternoon to pick up wins over University of St. Francis and No. 22 Indiana Institute of Technology at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
 
The Tigers (8-5) also racked up 25 hits over the two games, while allowing the Cougars (2-6) and Warriors (7-7) to record just a combined eight hits. Campbellsville hit four home runs on the day with DePaul Blunt and Connor Lowrie each hitting their first home runs of the season.

The Tigers continue to get off to fast starts as they scored three runs in the first inning, which ran their season total up 11. After Matthew Valdez was hit by a pitch to start the game and Ty Housden doubled down the left field line. Marco Murillo followed up with a triple out to left-centerfield to put Campbellsville up 2-0. Murillo scored on wild pitch two pitches later to cap off the inning.
 
After trading runs in the second inning, the Tigers were held scoreless in the third inning, which was the only time during the first game Campbellsville did not push a run across in the seven-inning affair.
 
In the fourth inning, the Tigers added two runs on two hits to take a 6-1 lead. Valdez drove in a run off a double, which came just after Jalen Horton scored on a wild pitch.
 
Holding 7-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, Campbellsville recorded four hits in the inning after Logan Roberts started the inning with a pinch-hit opposite field home run. Blunt singled home Valdez and Tyler Deason drove in a run on a fielder's choice to extend the Campbellsville lead.
 
Blunt capped off the victory for the Tigers with a three-run home run for his first home run of the season and gave Campbellsville a 13-1 win to start the afternoon.
 
Nick Johnston (2-0) earned the win after allowing just one run on four hits in the four innings of work. Dillon Day and Connor Lowrie threw the final three innings allowing just one hit without giving up a run.
 
Matt Fiorini (0-1) was credited with the loss after allowing seven runs – six earned – on seven hits in four innings.
 
Campbellsville 7, Indiana Tech 0
 
In a top-25 matchup, Campbellsville scored early once again plating two runs in the top of the first inning. After the five runs in the first inning of the two games on Tuesday, the Tigers are now outscoring their opponents 13-1 in the first inning this season.
 
For the second-straight game, Valdez starting the game after being hit by a pitch and Deason – who started the game on the mound – doubled to right-centerfield to put Campbellsville ahead. On the next pitch, Tony Fonzo doubled to the right-field corner and scored the Tigers second run of the inning.
 
Deason was dealing throughout the game as he allowed just one hit through the first five innings.
 
After scoring twice in the first inning, the Warriors kept the Tigers at ease and Campbellsville did not score again until fifth inning. In the fifth inning, Lowrie started the inning with single and with runners on first and third, Housden delivered a sacrifice fly out to left field to score Lowrie.
 
From the fifth to eighth inning, the Tigers recorded at least one run in each inning. Without recording a hit in the sixth inning, Campbellsville added a run after three two-out errors from Indiana Tech.
 
Chris Taitague notched his second home run of the season with a solo home run in the seventh inning with two outs in the inning. The long ball continued to help the Tigers late in the game after Lowrie's two-run home run in the eighth inning to cap off the scoring for Campbellsville in a 7-0 victory.
 
Deason (2-0) threw seven innings and allowed just two hits to earn his second win of the season. Deason also struck out eight batters, while facing one over the minimum in his seven innings. Welander allowed one hit out the the bullpen and Murillo threw the final 1-2/3 to complete the shutout.
 
Campbellsville posted its second shutout within a week after shutting out Huntington University last week.
 
Joe Wolf (0-1) threw four innings and allowed two runs on five hits in the loss. Six different pitchers for the Warriors toed the rubber and they combined to record nine strikeouts.
 
The Tigers are back at home on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series against No. 18 University of Northwestern Ohio. First pitch on Saturday is set for noon ET, followed by a 1 p.m. ET start on Sunday.
