Postseason play opens with Men’s Basketball facing No. 21 Life in MSC Quarterfinals on Friday

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville men's basketball team enters postseason competition on Friday afternoon against No. 21 Life University in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville, Ky.
 
The Tigers come into the tournament as the fifth seed and faces the fourth-seeded Running Eagles at noon ET on Friday. MSC Tournament action runs from Friday through Sunday. The tournament semifinals are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET, followed the by championship game at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Campbellsville comes into the postseason after picking up two wins during the final week of the regular season to earn its first 20-win season under head coach Brent Vernon. The Tigers are 21-9 on the year and finished tied for the fifth in the MSC at 6-8. Campbellsville defeated then No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College, 74-61, to conclude the regular season and grab the fifth seed in the MSC Tournament after winning the tiebreaker over the Blue Raiders.
 
Andrew Smith averaged 19 points and 16 rebounds during the final week of the regular season to earn Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. Smith is the only player in the conference to earn the weekly honor four times during the 2017-18 season.
 
Smith leads Campbellsville with 14.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Hagen Tyler is the only Tiger to average double figures this season with 13.1 points a game. The Campbellsville starting five all scored in the double figures to finish the regular season and Shawn Johnson recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds against Lindsey Wilson.
 
Life comes into the postseason after posting a record of 20-10 during the regular season. The Running Eagles went 8-6 in the MSC, but after finishing tied for third, they dropped to the fourth seed after losing the tiebreaker to University of the Cumberlands.
 
Leading Life this season has been the duo Undra Mitchem and Zach Landis. The two are both first and second on the team in scoring and rebounding. Mitchem posts a team-high 16.1 points per game and is second with 6.2 boards. Landis has a team-high 9.3 rebounds and averages 11.8 points per game. As a team, the Running Eagles ranks second in the NAIA with 314 made three-pointers and are third with 10.5 three-pointers per game.
 
During the regular season, Life swept the season series against Campbellsville and the Running Eagles have won four-straight games against the Tigers. Former Campbellsville head coach Keith Adkins has yet to loss against his former club since taking over at Life. The Running Eagles beat the Tigers 88-73 in Marietta, Georgia this January, and then Life earned an 81-72 road win at the Powell Athletic Center last month.
 
The winner of Campbellsville-Life contest moves on to face the winner of No. 1-seeded University of Pikeville and No. 8-seeded Shawnee State University in the semifinals at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. Pikeville hosts the conference tournament this season, where it has lost just once during the regular season after going 18-1 at home.
 
Opening tip on Friday afternoon is set for noon ET at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville, Ky.
