MILLIGAN, Tenn. —
Jeremy Hernandez recorded a career-high 11 kills and Campbellsville men's volleyball evened its record at 4-4 with a sweep over Milligan College on Wednesday night, 28-26, 25-15, 25-16.
Hernandez led the Tigers with 11 kills and hit .350 on the night, while
Rafael Cruz backed that up with 10.
Keaton Marshall led CU with 18 assists and
Diego Romero followed with 16.
The Tigers dominated by hitting .233 with 42 kills, compared to .071 and 22 kills for Milligan.
After CU won the first set, 28-26, the Tigers rolled past Milligan in the second and third.
The Tigers jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the opening set and later led 17-13 but Milligan rallied back to cut the deficit to one, 22-21. The Buffs ended up taking a 25-24 lead before Campbellsville ended the frame on a 4-1 run. CU finished with a season-high 20 kills in the opening set and held Milligan to seven.
In the second set the Tigers leaped ahead, 12-3, and never looked back. Milligan was able to cut the lead to five, 20-15, but the Tigers ended the set on a 5-0 run.
The final set started in favor of Milligan and the Buffs took a 10-9 lead. But then it was all Campbellsville from there on. The Tigers dominated the Buffs with a 16-6 run to complete the sweep the match, 25-16.
Campbellsville will now host the Tiger Invitational this weekend. CU plays St. Andrews University on Friday at 5 p.m. ET in Gosser Gym to open the invitational.
