Lady Tigers complete NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 5-1 win over Thomas

COLUMBUS, Ga. — For the third time this weekend Neely Quint tossed a complete-game, as Lady Tiger softball defeated Thomas University 5-1.

Campbellsville finished the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 4-1 record and improved its record to 14-3 overall.

Quint (10-0) tossed seven innings, allowing eight hits and one earned run while striking out six in 105 pitches. She also picked up a win earlier today with a complete-game shutout vs. No. 13 Ottawa. Quint finished the week with three wins and a save.

Offensively, the Lady Tigers had six hits combined between the two-four hitters – Rebecca Miller, Tori Humphrey and Alexis Smith. The duo also scored four of the five runs, while Smith had two RBI – a solo homer in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Lady Tigers got on the board in the second inning after Smith's solo bomb – her third of the season. In the third, CU added another run after a two-out RBI single by Brianna Scott scored Miller.

Moving to the fifth inning, Miller doubled to left field with one out and was followed with a single by Humphrey up the middle. Smith put CU ahead 3-0 with the sac fly to left field.

In the sixth, The Lady Tigers tallied three straight two-out singles, which was capped by a Jacqueline Roof RBI base hit to left field to give CU a 4-0 lead.

Thomas answered in the bottom half with a run, but CU got that run right back in the seventh. Jordan Ison executed a suicide squeeze bunt with Humphrey on third base for the insurance run.

Campbellsville now heads back home to open its schedule at Veterans Memorial Park with 13-straight home games. The Lady Tigers host Midway University on Wednesday, March 14 with first pitch at 12 p.m. ET.
