Lady Tiger softball opens home schedule with doubleheader sweep over Hiwassee

Jordan Ison hit her first-career home run in CU's sweep over HIwassee College on Thursday

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — A pair of run-rule victories over Hiwassee College opened Campbellsville's home schedule on Thursday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
 
The Lady Tigers earned a 12-3 win and 10-2 victory over the Hiwassee Tigers and improved to 15-3 overall.
 
Tori Humphrey had two hits in each game, while Alexis Smith tallied three in game two and had a single in game one for her four base knocks. Ryley Whitney was 3-for-4 on the day with five RBI, including a three-run home run.
 
Jordan Ison put the exclamation point on the day with her first-career home run - while Jacqueline Roof hit two bombs to lead off each game.
 
Neely Quint (12-0) and Morgan Gailor (5-3) both earned victories in the doubleheader, while Karson Williams and Mia Aldridge also saw time in the circle.
 
Game one: Campbellsville 12, Hiwassee 3
 
Jacqueline Roof led off the home half of the first inning with a home run and Campbellsville never trailed the rest of the day.
 
In the second, the Lady Tigers put together six hits and capitalized on an error to break the game open with eight runs and led 9-0. Aldridge, Miller, Humphrey, Smith and Brianna Scott all singled while Whitney smacked a 3-run homer.
 
Moving to the third, the Lady Tigers were led off with a Ryleigh Oldham double and was followed with Ison's pinch-hit homer to put the Lady Tigers ahead, 11-0. CU scratched another run in the frame and Humphrey singled and scored on an Scott RBI hit.
 
The Lady Tigers went to Karson Williams in the fourth and Hiwassee was able to push across three runs on four hits, but Williams settled down in the fifth to end the game early.
 
Quint tossed three innings and allowed one hit, while striking out three and walking one.
 
Game two: Campbellsville 10, Hiwassee 2
 
The Lady Tigers put up three runs in the first, fourth in the third and three more in the fourth to seal the doubleheader sweep. Alexis Smith went 3-for-3 in game two with four RBI and three runs scored to lead CU.
 
In the first, Hiwassee reached on a pair of Lady Tigers errors and were threatening early but Morgan Gailor struck out the four and five hitters in the lineup to get CU back on the right note.

Gailor finished throwing four shutout innings, while striking out a season-high five batters. She also did not allow a walk.
 
Like the first game – Jacqueline Roof led off the home half with a homer to put CU ahead for good. The Lady Tigers added two more in the first as Rebecca Miller singled and scored on a Brianna Scott hit and was followed with a sac fly by Ryley Whitney to score Scott.
 
In the third, Tori Humphrey started the rally with a double and scored on a Smith RBI single up the middle. Whitney followed with an RBI hit to left and Mia Aldridge doubled down the left field line to set up a two-RBI single by Dana Adkins.
 
CU scored three more in the fourth to seal the run-rule. Ison and Humphrey both singled to set up a two-RBI double by Smith and Scott followed with an RBI single to put CU ahead 10-0.
 
Aldridge entered in the fifth and allowed two runs off three hits and a CU error. The appearance in the circle was Aldridge's first on the season.
 
The Lady Tigers are back in action on Friday, March 16 with another doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Park. CU hosts Point Park University at 11 a.m. ET and fans can follow the action on the CU Sports Network.
